This is one of those rare albums that arrived in our office and quickly won over the majority. (The last time I remember that happening was with Cloud Nothings’ last January.) I’m not sure how long my relationship with Warm Soda will last, but right now it is so good. The entire album clocks in at under 30 minutes, and each song delivers the perfect amount of pop vocals and rock & roll guitars. If it’s garage rock, it’s summery and feel-good. If it’s pop music, it’s pop with punk sensibilities. If it’s rock, it’s toe-tapping and accessible enough for all. Basically Matthew Melton knows exactly what you want and he will deliver. In an interview he says he’s inspired by the formulas of classic pop music and thinks they “help keep musicians from getting too self-indulgent.” Even though Melton is a total frontman, and Warm Soda dips its toes in the glam rock pool, he’s right. Warm Soda after all is all about indulging the listener. And if you ever have a chance to catch them live – DO IT. “Our set is kind of like shaking up a can of soda and spraying it out all at once, instead of sipping it slowly.” – Yes, it is. Best songs: Jeanie Loves Pop, Someone for You, just stream the album – it’ll be done before you want it to be. – Anna Krukowska
