QOTD: What was the favourite book you read this month? ☁️ My one was The Surprising Power of a Good Dumpling and my reread of The Poppy War (not pictured). The thing I love most about books is being able to step into someone else's shoes.⠀ ⠀ #WithTheFireOnHigh 🔥 is about Emoni - a black teen mother to 2-year-old daughter Emma, finishing up her senior year of high school, living with her grandmother. Emoni loves to cook and when her high school offers a culinary arts class, she jumps at the chance to learn more about being a real chef. 👧🏿🥭🍉🍋 All of this is not something I’ve seen before in YA books so I really enjoyed this!⠀ ⠀ After listening to and loving “The Poet X” by Elizabeth Acevedo last year, I knew I’d have to pick up With The Fire On High. While “The Poet X” was told in spoken word/poems, this is told in prose and reads more like a story - so if you were iffy on the poem format, I would recommend giving this one a try! ⠀ ⠀ I loved this one so much, it was such a powerful story. Emoni is a strong young woman who has a lot of decisions to make as she’s about to graduate high school and go into the real world, supporting herself and her daughter and chasing her dreams of being a chef.
