Trick or Treat!!!
Hi bee-barnes-author, this time you get some treat from my pirate story "Sea of Memories, Sea of Chances" I am rewriting
In the previous chapters, Killian learned that Becca has two daughters she hides among her younger siblings and the orphans she cares for in a small harbor town, and met all of them. Now they are back at sea to find the treasure they are looking for.
Becca stood at the railing with a hot morning tea, looking out into the sunrise on the horizon, when Killian stepped up next to her with his own mug and some fruitcake he'd swiped from the galley for breakfast. "On the sweet side this morning?" teased Becca, amused. "A little. Climbing uses up a lot of energy." "Aye, you fell asleep as soon as you touched the pillow." "I know," he admitted awkwardly, "I guess I'm not the youngest anymore." "You're still young, don't be silly." "But not as young as the last time I hung up there so much." "Aye, I suppose that's true." For a moment they stood in silence. Becca sighed heavily and squinted her eyes against the early light. "You know the kids like you?" "I thought so when they asked for more and more stories. But you're their real hero," Killian confessed.
"I'm just giving them a home." "Where anyone else would have given them up." "And you gave them something to look up to. Maia asked if you could be her dad," Becca told him slowly, waiting for him to respond. "I guess the little one wants to help her uncle and aunt play matchmaker," he laughed, "Liam and Rachel already tried to push me in your direction too." "I'm sorry, I have no idea what got into them," she blushed in embarrassment. "Maybe they saw we were alike." "Maybe. Can I ask you something?" "Aye, go ahead," Killian leaned against the railing with a cheeky grin. "The first night, you were late for dinner…you didn't want to come back." Only her eyes betrayed how tense she was as his grin flickered. "I came back, that's all that matters." "I want to know." A look into her green eyes told him she wouldn't give up until she had an answer. "You made it very clear before that we barely knew each other, and the fact that I had just met your siblings and children had reinforced it."
"But you came back. Why?" "Liam. He pointed out to me that I was living a life of false assumptions. He also said that if Maia likes someone, the person must be nice." "Aye, she's a shy girl. I've never seen her laugh and smile as much as these few days," Becca smiled again but this time from the bottom of her heart. "But stubborn and knows what she wants, like you. You should be proud of her." "Thank you. That means a lot to me." "You're welcome." "You still want to know where we're sailing to," she giggled, amused. "I'd be lying if I said no." "Our destination is a little chapel on a small island. Old Will got married there, and I think the treasure might be there because he loved his wife as much as he loved the sea." "You make it sound very romantic." "It is. His sister once told me that the chapel sits above a cliff and you could overlook the sea from there." "Sounds like the perfect place for a pirate wedding," Killian admitted with a touch of wonder in his voice. "Aye, it must be."
