Primera semana en Santa Marta
Hot Hot Hot, such has been the weather here in Santa Marta. We arrived at 9:30pm on the 10th of January to 30C, and since then the days have ranged up to 37C.
Santa Marta is a beach town on the Caribbean coast, in the north of Colombia, and is the stepping stone to the country’s most famous beaches, such as Taganga, Palomino or Tayrona National Park. The city bustles with life, and is filled to the brim with markets of all kinds, from artisan objects to knockoffs, with anything you could possibly be looking for, including street food and lemonade vendors, as well as local stores, all blasting their music louder than the next. Add all the tourists to the mix, Colombian and foreign alike, and you get a vibrant, eclectic, chaotic, animated spread.
Our first few days were spent at our hostel meeting new people, discovering some of the nearby beaches, and finding our feet in our new temporary home as we organised our time volunteering, living situation, and, well, getting used to the stifling heat.
Verdict of the week: So far so good
