“do you really need these? i mean—you have the real deal right here, peach!” you laughed at his complaint and gesture of him holding at least ten merchandise’s of himself.
it started off cute when you bought a pin of him to “keep close to your heart.” it was a sweet gesture and he was moved by it, but this is too much! and where did you get the money anyways.
“how much wukongs do you need!?” he says full of woe.
you settle down your laugher and smile at his pouty face, shaped by the hoodie and almost falling sunglasses. it was too adorable.
“oh sun.” you say softly. his eyes lighten as you pat his cheek. he smiles delightfully like a touch-starved puppy, or monkey in his case. “the only one i’d ever need is you, of course.”

MK
ᯓᡣ𐭩 Right by your side the second you wake up. Very physically affectionate all day, giving you little kisses and crushing hugs wherever he can squeeze them in. Keeps checking his phone nervously though, which makes you a bit worried... you try to put it aside
ᯓᡣ𐭩 Goes all-out with tacky gifts. Chocolate hearts, flowers, plushies, you name it! He gives you at least a two months' supply of candy, each present having a sappy note and doodle of the two of you attached. You both stay in for most of the day, but come afternoon MK's anxious checking gets more frequent
ᯓᡣ𐭩 Before you can finally ask about it, he's quickly getting you out the door. He insists it's nothing, but he's an absolutely horrible liar when it comes to you. Still, you do your best to just trust him, and accept the awkward cart ride down the streets of Megapolis, watching the sky slowly deepen its hues into the forming dusk
ᯓᡣ𐭩 Once you start stepping out the cart, you're surprised to see a picnic blanket set out. You swore you could hear someone quickly driving off as MK cheers under his breath. He wraps an arm around your shoulder, gives you a big cheek kiss, proudly announcing your surprise stargazing picnic date. It's still quite a while before the stars are visible, so he works on preparing the food as you sit right next to him. Turns out there was no reason to worry after all
Mei
ᯓᡣ𐭩 Way too excited to wait and wakes you up early. She rushed a messy breakfast for the two of you, your whole home now being covered in cheesy Valentine decorations. Her favorite novelty for the holiday is those heart candies with little messages on them, which she offers you as soon as you're fully up
ᯓᡣ𐭩 Takes you on a ride on her bike! You have a helmet, of course, but she can't resist the urge to show off some new tricks she'd been practicing for you. Takes your arm wherever you two walk and makes a big show of opening doors for you as you re-visit all your favorite hangout spots
ᯓᡣ𐭩 You get to wear her jacket for the whole day, which makes Mei really giddy. It's cliché maybe, but seeing you walking around in it feels like all those trashy romance movies come to life. The easiest way to make her swoon in return is to play into her over-the-top antics, especially if you return some of the gestures
ᯓᡣ𐭩 By the time you're home again, you're both pretty worn out. Mei sleepily promises you she'll take down the decorations, but falls asleep in your lap the second you two rest on the couch for a minute. You pull up a blanket and drape it over the both of you, resigned to the fact that it would have to wait until tomorrow. Sleep catches up with you soon after
Red Son
ᯓᡣ𐭩 You wake up on your own time, but Red Son has obviously been anxiously awaiting your presence. You get handed a small mountain of presents before you're even done with breakfast, ranging from handmade to totally-not-stolen expensive ones. He gets embarrassed if you give him a gift in return, no matter how small it is
ᯓᡣ𐭩 If he's in his classic villain days, he'll offer to literally burn down anything you want. No matter the demand, he'll get it done for you. He'll scorch your name on the street if you let him. If he's more into his hero arc, he'll instead offer to take you out for a drive in one of his cars (as you came to learn, he's built several for himself)
ᯓᡣ𐭩 Whatever you do he'd prefer it be outside because his parents will not stop teasing you two. Every time you're near each other they joke about what a good couple you make, or how well you handle their son's temper. It's all in good fun, but it's also deeply embarrassing for Red Son, so he gets out the lair quick
ᯓᡣ𐭩 No matter what you choose to do, the day is ended with a romantic dinner. You're practically swamped with presents by now, thinking about where you're going to put them all. Red Son can barely focus on the food. He's too busy thinking about what led to you two getting to this point, almost worryingly quiet with contemplation. He's oddly shy with holding your hand on the walk back to the vehicle
Wukong
ᯓᡣ𐭩 Most likely the one sleeping in. You decide to gently wake him, planting soft kisses around the pink mask that circles his eyes. He wakes slowly, pulling you with him until you're trapped in his arms. It takes some playful back-and-forth before he finally gets up for the day, but he comments that spending the day lazing around in bed sounded pretty perfect to him
ᯓᡣ𐭩 Honestly if he does somehow wake up early he might think it's funny to try and pretend he forgot. Acts all clueless when you look confused at everything being exactly the same. This crumbles quickly though cause he hates seeing you upset and gives up on the surprise the second a disappointed frown crosses your face
ᯓᡣ𐭩 Picks a bunch of vibrant flowers from around Flower Fruit Mountain and presents them to you at breakfast. From there most of his gifts are small trinkets, little things you can carry with you all the time. Tries to act all smooth for the whole day and keeps his tail wrapped around you at all times. Will 100% hand-feed you chocolates from one of those heart boxes
ᯓᡣ𐭩 His idea of a perfect date is one at home. You could do a movie marathon of anything you want, or maybe take a stroll around the mountain. Coming from such an... 'exciting' past, he feels comfortable doing simple and domestic things with you. Dips into being sappy, reminding you just how much it means to him that you're here
Macaque
ᯓᡣ𐭩 Waits patiently for you to wake up. He gets everything ready in the meantime— nothing big, but the home is clean and all the little chores are done so you have the whole day to focus on each other. Greets you first thing with a soft forehead kiss, and reveals early that he has a surprise for you. But, of course, you have to wait to see it
ᯓᡣ𐭩 All his gifts are handmade. The one that stands out the most being two small yarn mandarin ducks, which he was the most nervous to present. They're a symbol of long-lasting love and devotion, the perfect subtle show of how he feels without him having to struggle to put it into direct words
ᯓᡣ𐭩 He keeps saying you didn't have to give him anything, but you did anyways. No matter how hard he tries to fall back on his mask of being aloof, you take time to make sure he feels just as loved as you do. It's one of the many, many reasons he fell for you. Not the greatest at showing appreciation in the moment, but he'll hold on to anything you get for him for ages
ᯓᡣ𐭩 The surprise comes at the end of the day, where he takes you to an area of the home he set up to have very dim lights. You watch as he twists around the shadows, morphing them into different shapes for you. Your favorite animal, images of the two of you, anything to see that sparkle of awe in your eyes. He tells a story of the once forgotten warrior finding a new purpose in another, detailing how they built their home together
Chang'e
ᯓᡣ𐭩 Like so many mornings before, you wake up to the smell of something cooking. There wasn't much to do on the moon, so Chang'e kept herself busy with inventing recipes for audiences to follow at home. You shuffle into the kitchen to see her wrapping up a Valentine's Day special for her show, many trays of treats setting out to cool. As soon as the cameras are off, she skates over and spins you around in a greeting hug
ᯓᡣ𐭩 She happily let you know that now that the special was over, you could eat all you wanted! Upon scanning closer, you realized something— she'd made all your favorite desserts specifically. When questioned, she just gave you a wink, taking a bite of one while saying it must have been a coincidence
ᯓᡣ𐭩 After that, the two of you go skating. You have a pair of shoes similar to Chang'e's, allowing you to glide across the moon's surface without getting stopped by craters or other bumps. She holds your hand as you skate by her side, occasionally adding little spins as you orbit around each other like the many planets that surround you
ᯓᡣ𐭩 To end it all off, the two of you take a moment to sit back and look at the stars. Her robotic helpers surround you both, sitting comfortably around you two. You watch the stars as she watches you. Years in isolation with nothing but baking to keep her company had been hard, even if she often deflects from admitting it. Having you there at all, especially right next to her, made her chest feel full with affection and gratitude
Wukong: This just feels right, it's like a finally met the one. *He picks you up and starts shaking you in the air* What the fuck took You so long thoung!!! HUH?!?
You: I don't know 😭
Wukong: Where you've been all my life, huh? *still shakes you*
You: I DON'T KNOOOW!!! 😫
Wukong: there we're people out there breaking my heart from left to right, huh? Start talking, this is your fault, EXPLANATION PLEASE!
it's not often that you relent in the face of wukong's persistent nagging to spar with him. you've long learned the art of ignoring him—and indeed he will often give up if you can hold out long enough or find some other way to distract him.
but this time, well.
this time he knew exactly how to push your buttons.
"c'mon sunshine, just this one time?" he pleads, crouched right in front of you and giving you his best impression of puppy eyes.
you roll your eyes and lift the book you'd been reading up higher to block out his face. "wukong, i said no. i'm not up for it right now."
"but you're never up for it," he whines, raising his head over your book to look down at you with big eyes. dappled sunlight filters down through the leaves of the tree you're sitting under, making certain patches of his fur a lighter gold than the rest. "if not now, then when?"
you huff. "don't you get enough sparring done through MK?" you ask him instead, your eyebrows furrowed. you grumble, "i don't understand why you keep bothering me about it. not like i can keep up with you anyways, oh great monkey king."
wukong flails a little in his attempt to explain. "i— well, i mean— it's just different, okay?"
you lift an eyebrow. "different how?"
he clears his throat and waves you off. "that's not important." and before you can give him an unimpressed look, he sighs loudly. "okay, fine. you don't wanna spar with me, i get it." he straightens up and folds his arms behind his head. you're suspicious that he gave up so quickly, but make no move to say anything, instead just squinting up at him.
wukong turns around, his tail flicking lazily side to side. "you're right. you wouldn't last against me at all." he sighs again. "i know, it's probably embarrassing, really. i understand."
your eye twitches.
he doesn't stop there, much to your chagrin. "it's okay. i'll just have to ask MK to spar with me again since you're clearly too scared to—"
it's embarrassing how easily he gets you with those simple words.
"ugh, okay fine!" you spit out as you toss your book to the side and stand up with a vicious glare on your face. "fine, i'll spar with you. but just this once, okay?" wukong doesn't even bother to hide the victorious beam on his face as he spins around to face you once more.
"great!" he chirps, ecstatic. "glad you've finally come to your senses. now c'mon!"
he grabs your wrist and tugs you out of the shade of the tree and towards an empty section of the beach on flower fruit mountain. you're grumbling to yourself as you let him guide you, the sunlight from above faintly scorching as it presses against your skin.
wukong lets go of your wrist when you're both centered in the clearing. the sand shifts under your shoes, the gentle sound of the ocean's waves ebbing and flowing in the background. a perfect day for not sparring, you think sullenly to yourself.
“let’s get this shit over with, then,” you say with a sigh as you shuck your shoes off to the side and begin to stretch out your arms and legs.
wukong snickers as he rolls one of his shoulders, then the other. “ah don’t be such a downer, i’ll go easy on ya.”
“i think your definition of ‘easy’ is different from mine,” you reply dryly as you crack your neck, then bend backwards with your hands on your hips so that you’re squinting up at the bright blue sky.
“eh, won’t know until we test it out, right?”
at that you straighten up to give him the stink eye, then blink when you see he’s tossed his hoodie off to the side as well as his shoes. it leaves his upper body exposed; the thick, burnt-orange fur along his arms and shoulders, as well as the patch of peach fuzz on his chest in the characteristic shape of a heart.
rarely have you ever seen wukong like this; always hiding behind his hoodie or his monkey king armor. it makes something familiar in your stomach abruptly jolt.
your eyes narrow at him in an attempt to dispel the feeling; you are trying to be irritated at him here. “is that really necessary?”
"what?" he asks innocuously like he isn't fully aware of what he's doing. he's not even trying to hide the mischievous grin on his face. "not gonna distract you, is it?"
you can't help the scoff that escapes your lips. you don't bother to deign him with a response; instead, you sink down into a fighting stance, your hands positioned in front of your face and chest as your legs widen.
wukong smiles even wider, if possible, his fangs glinting in the overhead sunlight. he rolls his head around his neck, bounces a few times on the balls on his feet, then copies your pose—albeit a bit looser. it makes your eye twitch again, but you say nothing.
salt lingers on your tongue as you breathe in, then out. the leaves of the trees lining the beach rustle and sway with each passing breeze. your gaze locks with a set of bright gold ones that seem to pierce down to your very soul.
a heartbeat. two. then—
you move first.
sand is kicked up into the air as you aim a sharp jab towards wukong's face. he pivots to the left to avoid it, but you’re ready and swing yourself into a roundhouse kick that he blocks with his arms.
"good!" he praises with delight, a sharp smile aimed your way from where your shin is straining against his forearms. "very good!"
"shut it," you grunt and whip your leg back so you can duck down and aim a sweep at his ankles.
wukong's nimble, you know this, and it especially shows when he hops over your foot. you follow the motion of your sweep to twist yourself back into a standing position and have just enough time to duck under a punch aimed at your nose.
you can practically feel the way the wind whips at your hair following his punch. if you take even one of his hits, you might end up in a hospital, you think to yourself with a grimace.
"i thought you said you'd go easy on me?!" you shout as you shove yourself backwards to avoid a heavy front kick from him.
wukong grins wildly. "i am!"
your scoff gets swallowed up as you redirect another one of his punches and lift your front leg to kick at his chest. he drops down into a split like it's the most effortless thing in the world, and you have just enough time to snap your head down to see the smirk he aims up at you before he's twisting his leg around to sweep you.
stupid monkey, you curse in your head as you roughly hit the sand and promptly roll away before he can pounce atop you to pin you down.
as you spar, you have no doubt that wukong is having the time of his life. and indeed, you can see it in his expression every time he dodges one of your attacks or when you manage to twist yourself away from one of his by the skin of your teeth. it makes your stomach do something funny again, and you do your best to push it all down for the time being.
it doesn't help that he makes little comments every now and then when he's particularly pleased at one of your moves.
"that's it!" he exclaims when you use his own chest to kick away from him before he can grab you by the ankle. "you're doin' pretty well, sunshine!"
"excellent! now do it again, but faster!" he tells you after you've managed to nick at the corner of his shoulder with a reverse kick. "harder!"
and you are certain—well into your fight—that he's showing off his skill and flexibility with every swift motion.
it's almost annoying, really. his body twists and ducks and rolls in ways you can only dream of doing yourself. he pulls elaborate moves by balancing on his tail and using momentum to swing his body around. you almost call it quits when he easily back flips under one of your wider kicks, but your irritation at his smug face fuels your fire even more.
you do take a handful of hits on your forearms and legs, but you think he toned down his strength after your initial exclamation, because they don't hurt as much as you'd expected. you can't quite land a proper hit on him, though, as much as you try. he isn't the great monkey king for nothing.
you're irritated, of course you are; but you're also sweaty and tired and you can feel the way sand sticks to your skin. it doesn't help that wukong looks the same as he did when you both first started; that is, like he didn't just spend who-knows-how-long fighting. the fur on his arms might be a tad more ruffled than usual, but you chalk it up to all the movement.
quite honestly, you're unsure how much longer you'll last, but you're determined to catch him off guard at least once.
you're lucky the opportunity presents itself when he tries to show off again.
there's a moment—a quick, quick moment—where he front flips himself over your head to land behind you. and you have a split second, as you rapidly spin to face him, where he's facing away from you.
you don't hesitate.
you lunge towards him.
you don't think he'd expected you to react so quickly. you can feel him jump slightly as your arms wrap tightly around his torso and your cheek presses into the thick fur of his back. there is no other thought in your mind other than some semblance of victory.
you plant your feet into the ground, muscles clenching—
—and then you heave.
there is resistance, at first. you chalk it up to him being that fucking heavy, stone origin ever so prevalent. he makes a confused sound, and then—like a switch going off—that resistance completely vanishes.
you grunt as you lift wukong up, then bend backwards to suplex him with a resounding thump!
wukong lets out a muffled "oof!" but you don't waste any time. you release him, then roll away to scramble back up to your feet, sweating profusely. but before you can make it even a few steps away, something fuzzy wraps around your ankle and yanks you back to the ground.
you yelp once you strike the sand, then twist onto your back just in time for a weight to settle itself on top of your waist in the form of wukong tossing himself atop you.
he grins over you, loose grains of sand falling down from his hair, as his hands press down firmly on your shoulders. "hey that was pretty good! i'm impressed!"
you huff and grab at his wrists to try to pry him away from you. "it didn't even stun you for five seconds."
"well, no, but it was a good attempt, anyways!" he says in amusement. "maybe if you keep trying you'll stun me for six seconds!"
you roll your eyes and abruptly shove him off of you with your hips. he falls to the side almost willingly after a split second of resistance. your eyes narrow, but you brush it off so you can catch him in a headlock as he rolls away.
your arms tighten around his neck. wukong's hands automatically come up to grasp at your forearms, but he makes no attempt to pry them away. instead—to your immense annoyance—he chuckles. and that's your only warning before he throws himself into a front barrel roll.
the wind is knocked from your lungs as your back hits the ground and his weight rolls into your stomach. it forces you to release him, and you blink almost dizzily as you find yourself splayed on the ground with wukong sitting backwards on your stomach. goddamnit.
his tail flicks at your nose as he peeks over his shoulder to look down at you with a grin. "getting a bit bold now, are we?"
you huff—as much as you can anyways as you try to catch your breath. "i haven't even started biting yet."
wukong smiles, and it is all teeth. "now there's a thought!"
"wh— you— wukong, no—" you yelp as he twists around, his jaw opening like a fucking snake to bite at your shoulder. you are just able to shove your hands against his shoulders and push until you shove him off of you.
wukong doesn't let you go that easily, however. he grapples with you, wrestling you back towards him even when you try to escape and squirm and do your best to get away from his mouth. it leaves the both of you a twisting, shifting mass on the sand. his chest presses against your own, his fur brushes along your exposed skin, and you can feel his laughter as he writhes around to keep you pinned to the sand.
and yet, amidst all the flurry of movement and pushing and pulling, he still finds some way to make your stomach do that familiar flipping it's been doing since he had talked you into sparring with him.
"what the—" you blink down rapidly at him as warmth crawls up your neck and towards a particular hot spot on your cheek. "wukong stop that!"
"stop what?" he asks cheekily as he quickly leans up again to peck at the other side of your cheek. "'s not distracting you, is it?"
this guy. "i hate you so bad," you manage to grit out as your arms continue to strain against his own. he just plants another kiss on the tip of your nose. "stop!"
and as much as you struggle and hit him—he takes each blow easily, like they're nothing more than a breath of air—you are unable to win.
you inevitably relent as he sits on top of your hips for the umpteenth time, your breathing labored and your skin sticky with sweat and sand. you let yourself sink bonelessly into the ground. "alright, i'm done."
wukong smiles happily at you, content. "and you said you didn't wanna spar with me," he says. "look how much fun we had!"
"fun," you drone flatly, bruised and sore as all hell. "right."
he leans forward, his shadow casting itself across your face. "i'm proud of how long you lasted, for what it's worth," he tells you gently. "you certainly gave me a run for my money!"
"don't lie, you didn't even break a sweat," you grunt, fanning at your face that's hot with exertion and... something else. "i know you let me suplex you too, you aren't fooling me."
"ah well"—he scratches sheepishly at his face—"yeah, okay, i did."
you roll your eyes. "whatever. will you finally stop bothering me to spar with you now?"
"ehhhhh, weeelll." the expression he's wearing does not make you feel reassured at all. "about that...."
"oh come on!" you complain. you don't even want to imagine doing this with him again; you're exhausted. "MK can give you a better challenge, y'know."
at that, wukong cocks his head thoughtfully at you. and after a short pause, he eventually responds.
"i don't think i can fight with MK the same way i just did with you," he says simply.
you... don't know what to say. you stare up at him with a face that feels like it's about to conflagrate. you swallow, and you swear he traces the motion of your neck with his gaze.
"right," you say, mouth lined with cotton. and then, in an attempt to pull yourself together, you clear your throat and slap at his thigh. "now get the hell off of me."
