Spain 2005
'Brujería' ('Witchcraft'), performed by Son de Sol. Composition: Alfredo Panebianco. Lyricist:Alfredo Panebianco.
'Brujería' starts off strongly and I'm ready to love this song. It holds together till the first chorus and scrambles through that... I'd like to see a little bit more contrast to create more shape. Then the ogre-ish rapper turns up. At which point, just over one minute in, it's clear to me this is not working. The rapper takes away any momentum of the song, his voice strips away any lyrical comfort from the trio, and when the baton is passed back to Son de Sol I'm looking for the star quality to draw me back in. It's not there.
There's no effort to try and connect to the viewers at home. I'd say there's more focus on making sure none of their dance moves go wrong than enthralling the audience to get their votes. In the 100% televote era, if you don't work down the camera, you don't work at all.
So much promise, so much failure to deliver.
Semi Final: Automatic qualifier (Big 5). Grand Final: Points: 28. Placing: 21st.
