THE  ONLY  GRACE  YOU  DESERVE  IS  A  BULLET.  let’s  not  forget  this,  chase.  let’s  not  forget  all  the  goddamn  good-natured  horror  you  put  everyone  around  you  through  on  a  daily  basis.  you  are  saccharine  and  harmless,  but  even  lambs  have  teeth  and  even  you  can  bite.  someone  taught  you  how  to  clamp  your  canines  down  on  outstretched  hands  a  long  time  ago.  it’s  become  a  habit  ever  since.

that’s  why  you  bristle.  that’s  why  your  nose  wrinkles  and  your  brows  furrow,  and  for  a  second  you  are  painfully  aware  of  your  mask  slipping.  then  you  clear  your  throat  and  it  comes  back  up,  and  your  attention  wanders  from  her  to  the  bookstore  around  you  two  with  such  practiced  ease  that  it  might  almost  look  natural.

you  don’t  know  if  the  distraction  will  work,  but  you  hold  up  some  antique  book  all  the  same.  the  cover  lacks  any  imagery  and,  instead,  is  solely  devoted  to  the  gold  cursive  of  its  title:  ‘dracula’.    maybe  not  the  best  thing  to  pull  up  when  you  need  a  change  from  talking  about  being  hard  on  yourself,  but  it’s  the  best  the  universe  has  offered  you,  so  you’ll  take  it.

maeve rarely makes more noise than needed, never feeling the urge to disturb the silence, to give her opinion unless it will aid. yet slender body shifts in char closest the door, curiously studying those around her as she sips lukewarm coffee. her attention always seems so entirely tied to world around her, as if she never quite slits in properly, a cautious little cat in corner of world. "I really wouldn't touch the tea." she warns softly, voice rarely really used as she glances back at other near welcome table. "the coffee is tolerable at best. the tea tastes like lettuce."

𝐀𝐍𝐃  𝐈𝐅  𝐇𝐄  𝐂𝐀𝐑𝐄𝐃,  𝐓𝐇𝐀𝐓  𝐖𝐎𝐔𝐋𝐃  𝐁𝐄  heartbreaking.  if  verso  gave  a  shit  about  her  wants,  then  he  would  take  what  she  just  said  and  he  would  really  ponder  it.  he  would  take  a  lot  of  time  to  ruminate  on  the  ramifications  of  his  actions,  be  them  good  or  bad,  and  maybe  one  day  he  would  approach  her  in  a  cafe  and  ask  her  for  some  quiet  forgiveness.  they  would  talk  over  coffee  (she  would  want  to  leave  early  and  he  would  beg  her  to  stay)  until  they  agree  to  do  things  over.  verso  would  become  kind,  considerate,  and  probably  attend  a  few  of  those  A-A  meetings  he  keeps  skipping.  

unfortunately  for  yoojin  and  everyone  else  in  the  universe,  verso  sachs  does  not  care  that  much.  he  certainly  doesn’t  care  that  much  about  HER.

his  response  is  to  tip  his  head  back  and  groan,  his  arms  allowed  to  go  limp  at  his  side  like  that  of  a  child  who’s  just  been  told  that  no,  they  are  NOT  going  on  space  mountain  again.  then  he  raises  his  hands,  drags  them  down  his  face,  and  looks  down  at  her  with  absolute  annoyance  burning  behind  his  sunglasses.  

❝  FALL  FOR  IT,  ❞  verso  repeats,  dropping  and  raising  the  octave  of  his  voice  so  that  he  -  for  all  of  a  moment  -  echoes  her  statement  like  a  poorly  maintained  computer  speaker.  ❝  jesus  crispy  CHRIST,  y’know,  most  people  would  be  head  over  heels  to  have  a  six-two  ‘SCARY  DOG  PRIVILEGE’  bodyguard  ‘cause  their  divine  daddy  just  loves  ‘em  THAT  much.  ❞

he  pops  a  cigarette  between  his  lips,  holds  it  tight  between  his  teeth,  and  lights  it  with  a  MORTAL  lighter  for  once.  the  damn  thing  is  already  almost  out  of  fluid.
