I’ve been tagged by @awed-frog, so here is a music game!
rules: tag ten songs you’re vibing on and tag ten people
Personal note: I need to preface this by saying music is a big part of my daily life and as an enneagram type 4 it’s like I’m constantly curating my own personal life soundtrack and I’m both continually adding new favorites and hanging on to old favorites like my life depends on it. My soul is literally fed by music.
1) Halsey, Colors: This is the first Halsey song that caught my attention and I’m anxiously waiting to see her in concert next week, eeek. “You’re ripped at every edge, but you’re a masterpiece.” Hmm, I wonder who that could be in my mind . . . ? it’s Dean, duh, it’s Dean Winchester. Sheesh.
2) 10,000 Maniacs, Gold Rush Brides: This isn’t even my favorite of their songs, but it’s one of my favorites and I love singing it. “Follow the typical signs, the hand painted lines, down prairie roads, past the long church spire, past the talkin’ wire, from where to who knows” gaaaahhhh, it just rolls off the tongue and it’s perfect and heartbreaking.
3) Ed Sheeran, Barcelona: Last spring I declared this the song of the summer, well, my summer. I just love the flavor of it and how it makes me want to travel and dance.
4) Bear McCreary featuring Griogair Labhruidh, Moch Sa Mhadainn: Um, if you haven’t blasted this in your car on repeat for a week, you haven’t lived. The lyrics are total shit (fortunately sung in hot & haunting Scots Gaelic, so you don’t have to actually know what he’s singing, just immerse yourself in the beauty and intensity), because Bonnie Prince Charlie was a huge disaster, but god damn, the Scots were so hopeful before Culloden. It’s painful, don’t think about it. Just enjoy this work of art.
5) Dar Williams, The Christian & The Pagans: “Because now when Christians sit with Pagans, only pumpkin pies are burning.” One of my favorite holiday songs and I keep thinking about how I’m kind of a neo-pagan and a neo-Christian, and how infuriating that might be to many people.
6) Martin Gore, Coming Back to You: Martin Gore (as Martin Lee Gore, if you’re having a hard time finding it) covering Leonard Cohen. I never get tired of it, it’s so beautiful.
7) Bastille, Sleepsong: I’m not sure why, but I love this song so much. So much. It hurts so good. *sigh*
8) Florence + The Machine, Stand By Me: Aural perfection. You’re welcome.
9) Florence + The Machine, Wish That You Were Here: Just listen to it! Good lord, she’s amazing. And I have no qualms about putting her one here twice a row, though I do feel bad about not putting any Depeche Mode or solo Natalie Merchant. Oh well.
and finally
10) Christina Perri, A Thousand Years: My all time favorite song. It’s perfect.
Um, so it says to tag the songs, but I’m not sure how or why to do that, so I’m skipping. It also says to tag 10 friends, but I’ve already seen awed-frog’s list and don’t want to obligate anyone else, so feel free if you want to and tag me so I see it : ) All love!
