A fantastic horsey adventure to Song Kul lake!
Dropped off in a field in the middle of nowhere we met our horse guide fellow, we saddled up with no additional instruction and we were off! We rode across hills and past tiny yurt camps, along tracks up and up into nicer and nicer scenery. Sam and Paul started to wane due to ‘pains’ but it was absolutely awesome!
We stayed with a family with their own horse farm (rearing fawns for horse milk - a Kyrgyz speciality!!) - we even got to taste it fresh (and warm!!) from the teat. We slept in their very best yurt, decorated with handmade felts and designs.
Next morning we had an incredible breakfast in the dining yurt and we were off again, this time over a rocky mountain pass (my horse was finally the one to misbehave and started to try and walk back down as soon as we hit snow!).
Then the views of the lake opened up as we came over the pass and dropped down, after a long ride, to another incredible yurt camp, this time by a beautiful windy river. An incredible sunset over the lake and our time with the horseys was over, the last leg we walked round the lake to our final yurt camp... we eat on the pebbled beach next to an abandoned yurt before Sam and Paul went for a freezing dip. Our final yurt was fabulous as ever, a yummy meal, chats with the owners and a last crazy sunset...
Back to Bishkek and it was over... two years on the road, two years of silliness and sun and snow and rain and kindness and stories, walks and bikes and huts and food food food.
Homeward bound.
