Mother I can’t remember exactly when I began writing the words for Mother or how the song started off....did KK send me a piece of music that was the genesis? I only remember that I wanted to write a story that in some tiny way spoke to the gigantic feelings I was having about having a mother and being a mother. It is a profound thing, this relationship with she from whom life comes. It is not always a harmonious thing I know, and none of us are perfect......but I love my Mam and I adore my children and so I was astonished by this song when it was made. I thought it was going to be a light airy thing......but then it arrived , much like a songchild, with it’s own personality and a deep yearning that I still don’t fully understand. We recorded a version of it initially for the album Mutter but KK wrote this new piano music and suddenly the song landed and sounded like the best version of itself. #New EP #Songsfromthekitchentable #tunes #track2 #Mother Mother Conduit of blood and stones, food and shells, spells and bones Webs of skin, precious things, ways of being in them Conduit to find you there Sit you down and stroke your hair Tell you how it is you should be feeling Conduit of blood and spells, candle wishes, warning bells Sounds she made when you were born, secret lines of suffering Conduit to find you there, Sit you down and draw you in Showing you the double edge of keening And then you fill your house with things she likes And you line her way with reminders You pray her heel upon your floor And you try so hard to find her Mother, call down Mother, call down Conduit of blood and rope, tender signs , a lifeboat Shows of kindness, ways of pain, the grace that’s in accepting Conduit of everything early felt and early seen https://www.instagram.com/p/B68OsXQAKLR/?igshid=1b7j978xgmnmx
