Every time I get back into this show I always go back to Sonic Gets Thrashed because I'm just obsessed with Torch (Neurodivergent immediately fixates on confirmed neurodivergent) but this time I actually thought abut this... a lot.

So all the Scrap Valley robots we're introduced to don't work like they should (either they can’t do what they were programmed to, Can’t stop doing what they were programmed to, or can only do a small thing for the broad thing they were programmed to do) except Torch. He's a damn effective weapon and actually comes the closest to actually seriously hurting Sonic out of all of Robotnik's creations. There's nothing wrong with how he was programmed except for his anger issues.

Now, Robotnik seems to have some but not a lot of control of how his creations end up personality wise (Scratch and Grounder vs Music Destroyer as an example of the variety) but either way you look at it is honestly tragic, and impossible not to blame Robotnik for. We already know Robotnik abuses his creations. How long was Torch used for his intended purpose before their clashing personalities forced Robotnik to scrap him and start over? On top of that, how many of the scrapped robots quietly avoided Torch, or told newcomers to avoid him, purely because he was seen as an unstable danger to everyone?

He got scrapped for his temper, this is already clearly a sore point based on his reaction to it simply being brought up. In Scrap Valley, we only see him interact with one person, but it tells a lot given Wallace seems to be kind of the ambassador to Scrap Valley. He treats Torch as completely irrational for not trusting a random visit from someone on a wanted poster while they're being relentlessly bombed and - while never outright stated - he gives an implication that Torch is someone that's dangerous based on how he reacts to feeling antagonized (the "See what I mean?" After Torch blows up over his temper problem bring brought up, and then immediately revealing he's made a fire extinguisher for these exact reasons). It really only takes learning Sonic's trying to help them for Torch to stop the murder attempts, and he ends up playing a really vital role in stopping Robotnik (Redirecting the waterlines, Holding back his goons, and recording his freak out, only one of which was necessary for him to do). Wallace isn't really the nicest guy (lest we forget him laughing at essentially a blind guy struggling to navigate without an aid and just saying not to bother helping a robot being pursued by Wolfgang) but he's the closest we see to a broad sight of the inner dynamic of Scrap Valley. How many of Torch's issues were caused by the abuse he likely suffered at Robotnik's hands and exacerbated by his treatment in Scrap Valley? If how Torch is treated by him is the standard for how he's treated then you can't blame him. He's constantly seen for his worst traits brought on by the abuse he suffers and until Sonic comes around, no one is seen trying to help him.

I'd be angry too.
