So, in "Newts in Tights" we finally get to see the sword Anne got back in season 1 being used, and Anne treats it like a casual thing that she has it, implying this was always her main weapon and not the old, banged up thing she's been using all through the series after "Reunion".

Which got me thinking, was this always meant to be the case, and the animators just screwed it up? Like, Canonically speaking, this was always her actual sword, but the animators just screwed it up and it was too late in production to change it by the time the creators realized the error?

The guys behind the opening to season 2 seemed to think the sword would stick around after all.

I mean, they are relatively similar in shape, and it would be easy to mistake them pre-coloring, so this kind of mistake isn't that impossible for the animators to have made, assuming Anne's sword in reunion was her main one and none of the writers picking up on the mistake before it was way, way too late and expensive to fix it.
