Thought on Dreams of an Absolution...

The progression of Silver's theme has always kinda stuck with me. How it starts off so bleak, yet crescendos into something more hopeful by the end. A great description of the hedgehog himself.

"And I might know of our future, but then you still control the past." Hailing from the future means that Silver has knowledge over it, but -- until time travel -- he has no power over the state of the world. That’s all in the past, in the hands of his predecessors. He's left with the world they built. (Alternatively, this may be addressing someone metaphorically stuck in the past, someone who cannot move on from what's happened)

"And who knows what of the future? We can all try to change the past." This line removes people from roles, instead stating that this could apply to anyone. It's almost freeing, in a way. "Who knows what of the future?" is akin to saying the future is not set in stone. You don't have to be a victim of circumstances -- you hold power over your life and your relationships. Maybe that's small in the grand scheme of things, but it's the world to you and your loved ones.

It might be a stretch, but listening to this sometimes makes me wonder if Silver may have one day had to make a decision to remain in the past. After returning to so many ruined futures, after befriending so many people from the past, maybe it's time for him to belong somewhere. It sounds just like Sonic to encourage him, not to give up on the future, but to claim a life for himself in the present. He can still fight for a better future, except he trades certainty of how their efforts turn out for a home and friends.

Sounds worth it to me.
