I think about the scene in DI with them all infected a lot like. idk the others are trying to fight it and Leon just kinda. sits there. resigned. Like he accepts death hskdgh. and the whole "It's a living" thing like??? He looks so much better in this movie than in Vendetta but it's clear he's still struggling, still feeling trapped, but he's at the point where he just accepts it. He can't fight the forces that have him trapped in his job so he just... waits for death. Everyone else has rebuttals, faith in themselves and what they're doing, but Leon? Leon knows he's not working for the good guys. He's always known, and has never been able to do anything about it.
I am so normal

Soni wasn’t sure what called her there that day, only that it was something weird, and almost instinctual that pulled her out to Carteneau. The Flats was somewhere she visited more frequently than the average person, mostly due to her work as a summoner, and her time spent with her colleagues researching the Allagan devices there, but something about the place always felt familiar to her. Not in a “I’ve been here before” sort of way, but more “I feel like I belong here” feeling. Now, it’d take a lot to make Soni drop everything and spend the rest of her days out in the vast, desolate wasteland, but she couldn’t help feeling this connection to the place. Something in her brain was telling her that it had to do with all the times she attuned to the aether in the area to further her magic.
The changes started out subtle, after the first time she found herself on the flats with her mentor and their guard, Soni noticed some dark spots showing up on her legs. Nothing too weird, she thought, it could just be a strange rash, or maybe she’d tanned strangely the last time she was in Ul’dah under the harsh sun.
Then they got darker. As time went on, they reached an almost pitch-black, revealing the intricacies of the markings. They were symmetrical, exactly the same shapes on both of her legs, a sort of incomplete diamond, open at the bottom, with the same shape repeated within the middle, and she noted that they pooled into an inky blackness near her waist. It was certainly weird, and she was more than a little concerned, but she wasn’t feeling any different, so she decided to pay it no mind for the moment.
And then it spread.
Over the course of a few weeks, from the dark spots at the top of the marks it began to creep up her sides, ending in a flame-like motif across her stomach. It then started to pop up on her arms, in a very similar pattern to the one’s on her legs, and then again on her back. On her back, however, it formed into wing-like patterns, and then a broken ring coming around to just barely the front of her neck. It grew more as she honed her magic, and thus she attributed it as a side effect of her prowess growing.
It was out in Ishgard when her skin started to harden.
It was just two spots on her arms, and at first she just figured it was a rash and bandaged it up so she could avoid itching at them. It was about a week later, on the road, that she removed the bandages…
To reveal scales.
She’d grown scales.
What in the hell was she supposed to make of this? In place of the strange, tough skin she’d had just a week earlier, she’d grown distinctly dragon scales. The chirugeons of the city had no idea what to make of it, and Soni had no idea what to do either. It didn’t seem to hurt, but it was so confusing. What caused this?
It was only later that she put two and two together. Her tattoos appeared when she first came into her own as a Magic user, and continued to appear as she hit milestones in her journey, ending in wings that appeared as she first learned to use Shadow Flare. Her scales appeared after her first time in Dreadwyrm Trance. Whatever was happening was somehow linked to her mastering techniques related to the Dreadwyrm. Then she remembered where she woke up, all those years ago.
Carteneau, just a few years after the Calamity. She woke up there, bereft of memories, with only a robe and a tattered old grimoire. She was found by a Maelstrom patrol, taken to Limsa, and that was how she started her adventure. Why there? Of all places, there?
That’s what she was there to find out. What did she have to do with this place, and why did all these strange things happen to her?
She came upon the place she first woke up, a large, circular platform of Allagan technology, a broken down terminal of some sort at one end. It was strange, she hadn’t been here in years, and yet she almost instinctively knew the way. Something in her felt like she was called there by something divine, almost. She stood in the center of the platform for quite some time, taking in the air, still smelling of something burnt. A familiar, yet at the same time completely unfamiliar feeling started to creep up on her, one of detachment from her surroundings, of a piercing headache, one like she was about to float away. She closed her eyes, breathing in deeply, but was startled out of her relaxation by a voice, one she hadn’t heard in a long time.
“Warrior of light, you come here seeking your past, yes?” Soni recognized the voice as the Mother Crystal immediately.
“Hydaelyn? Y-....yes, that’s what I’m here for.”
And so Hydaelyn began.
“You were born here, but not as a child. You were created from the aether here, by my own hand. From the aether of the Dreadwyrm, I created you to protect this star with the very power that once threatened to destroy it.”
Created from Bahamut? Soni…. Wasn’t sure what to make of this. It suddenly made a lot of things make a lot more sense. Scales? Checks out. Weird wing tattoos? Yeah, sounds about right.
“So...Bahamut. That’s….what I’m…from. I guess you’d say.”
Time passed, and Hydaelyn’s voice had long faded away. It darker now, Soni’d been out there for longer than she realized. It was almost relaxing, just sitting out there. Something felt like home. She wondered, however, what other potential her magic had.
She spent the rest of that night trying different things, trying to bring out whatever she felt within her. She was on the brink exhaustion as the sun started to peak out over the horizon, and golden-pink light began to spill out over the ground. At the end of her rope, she decided to try one last thing before heading back. She tossed her grimoire to the ground, and tried to well up whatever she could within her.
From somewhere deep inside her, she felt a surge of power. She didn’t know how she knew it, but the words came to her mind. The energy carried her into the air with a graceful twirl, and her body contorted backwards as the magic flowed from her in great arcs of white-hot flame, crashing into the earth with the force of a Meteor.
Megaflare.
It seared through her body, but oddly enough, not in a painful way. Like healing fire, almost. On the other hand, it was exhausting. She felt herself collapse onto the floor as her magic finally gave out. She laid on the ground for a little while, regaining her strength.
“That….I could...I could do that?”
She’d had that potential. She did that on her own. Something in her felt...reinvigorated.
The trip back was gonna be a hassle, but, man, did she have something to tell Pepper about.
