“When I was in the last 70 yards, I said, ‘I think I got this race,’” Leon said.
While it's amazing and historic that Rich Strike won the Derby, he wouldn't have won it at all without his absolutely phenomenal jockey and it's frustrating to see that Sonny Leon isn't getting all the credit he deserves in all the news articles about the win.
The governor of Kentucky didn't even mention him when presenting the trophy for crying out loud.
This is Sonny Leon and he is why Rich Strike won.
Crashed yesterday afternoon so I missed the derby but I just watched the race and WOW - what a run by Rich Strike. Fantastic ride from his jockey. Watched it three times in a row.
