On Darrow...a rant.
Initially, I was going to let it go, but it has been bugging me since it happened, because i don’t think it’s isolated. Most people just don’t say some things out loud. Of course, it was on Instagram, and it doesn’t involve anyone from my original Howler pack...
Everyone knows by now my favorite piece of fan art from my own work: The Reaper one on Mercury. Anyway, recently my biggest concern when I drew it, was voiced about that picture: isn’t Darrow supposed to be white?
FFS, actually he’s a Red living in a carved Gold body, but if one wants to be archaic and crude, yeah, he’s white. I just decided Mickey wouldn’t let his God of War be crippled by a severe sunburn! What soldier has aloe on Mercury?
So, why does this bug me so much? Is it the lack of imagination? Maybe. The missing of a huge fucking theme in the book? Probably, and really, there are a lot of points missed.
Or could it be that I was offended by the pretense that the addition of a useful biological adaptation, one that wouldn’t be a stretch for a man who can alter someone’s DNA to include, could render a very recognizable character drawing into question?
