The forest is kinder than the city. I listened as a city girl went on and on about how she only looks out for herself in a time of trouble. She's raised two kids in London and taught them exactly that. And I watched this little girl bring us wood and fire and cassava and laughter, as we waited for an ambulance to rescue us from the pitch black forest. She didn't understand half of what we said but she spoke kindness with the eloquence of an angel. The news might be saturated with stories of man's cruelty towards man. The conscience of the world might be politicized but kindness is unchanging in its nature In Africa, there actually is such a thing as free lunch and you won't always have to be stranded in a forest to experience it.
