Sony Semiconductor Solutions Corporation (SSS) has announced the launch of the LYT-828, a new 50-megapixel*¹ CMOS Sensor.
Apple tends to be highly secretive about its supply chain. It’s for this reason that a recent Tweet from its CEO, Tim Cook, drew a lot of attention. In it, we see Cook with Sony CEO, Kenichiro Yoshida, as they look over a pair of iPhones that appears to have some type of testing apparatus, likely used for Sony Semiconductor image sensors.
"Thanks to Ken (Yoshida) and everyone on the team for showing me around the cutting-edge facility in Kumamoto today," he said.
Aside from the image, Cook confirmed that Apple has been using Sony Semiconductor image sensors ‘for over a decade to create the leading camera sensors for iPhone.’
A recent report disclosed that the iPhone 15 series could boast a cutting-edge Sony image sensor that’s capable of clearly capturing a person's face even against bright backlighting.
However, Sony has yet to put the rumored sensors into production. They will reportedly be produced at the company's Nagasaki plant.
