i want to know what you want. // bucky :)
howl's moving castle prompts // @eidetic187
his arrival sparks alarm bells in his head; the ever-looming threat of capture, of worse. his body pulls tight, a coil of anticipation as he prepares to fight, to flee. he expects the brandishing of a gun, the swarming of agents, weapons trained, ready. his penance; this time for saving a life and not taking one.
it would almost be ironic, yet...
they never come. his gun remains in place at his hip, holstered.
he's alone.
what bucky can't understand is why. a poor decision for, what he imagines is, an otherwise clever man-- or, equally as likely, a man with resources; he wasn't an easy person to track without. and to have found him would mean to have known who he was; what he was.
he remembered him-- remembered his face, remembered saving his life. and yet a single life saved does little to balance the scales in his favor; to erase all of the red. he's still the soldier, even when he doesn't want to be.
'you know who i am?'
do i?
quizzical, gentle. the alarm still sounds, but quieter. i know who everyone thinks you are. but i also know that you saved my life.
that doesn't align with the winter soldier image.
his own expression shifts, less wary and more perplexed. did it matter? why did he care? why do you care?
i think you're worth knowing.
is he? debatable, he thinks, though doesn't say aloud. his gaze reads skeptical as it lingers with the other man's own. he's come alone, left himself vulnerable, and for what-- to get to know him? of all the twists he might have expected, this certainly hadn't been one of them.
i want to know what you want.
he inhales, exhales, runs his tongue along his molars, equal parts thoughtful and stunned. 'you're here... to get to know me.' it comes out more a statement than a question, puzzled gaze never once leaving the other's own. 'what does it matter?'
