Okay, so like, it is heavily implied at the end of Chapter 8 that the MC is half-human, half-divine because of the whole mysterious deus-ex-machina-like power that they have against evil corruption and all. And from that I can only assume that somewhere in their family tree there’s a bit o’ Divina if we go by Otogi categorization terms? (I mean, cause Anima kinda has some logistical issues with the whole procreation aspect I can only assume, and Phantasma kinda implies a whole different spectrum of power, yeah?).
So purely in the hypothetical, what if the MC was part Anima or Phantasma instead of Divina?
Divina!Jun would be classic Jun. Well, as classic as an Otogi AU character can get since the basis of their character is a ‘what if Hijiri was the mastermind of the evil seeds the entire time and MC took up his offer of servitude’ lol. Jun is a kind soul forced to do terrible things. They are just a bundle of regret and shame, too weak at heart to have rejected Hijiri’s offer no matter the consequences. At the same time, they really do consider Hijiri a precious friend, no matter the heinous things he commands them to do. Jun is a bit too much of a people pleaser in that regard. Unfortunate.
Anima!Jun comes off as more timid and gentler than classic Jun. As an Anima descendant, they are not an actual object spirit. Rather their heritage manifests as an affinity for a certain object. In Jun’s case, they are attached to folding fans. They have a habit of hiding the lower half of their face behind their ever-present fan which makes them seem shy or coy. Truthfully, it’s just a natural habit, they don’t even realize they’re doing it half the time. They are however more prone to blind loyalty than classic Jun. Should Anima!Jun be placed in classic Jun’s position, they would feel a little less conflicted in following Hijiri’s orders.
Phantasma!Jun is based on the Inugami which if you are familiar with how they are made, a rather unfortunate heritage. This manifests as a pair of dog ears (modeled after the Kishu Ken), facial markings, a large collar-like birthmark around their neck, and just more ethereal features. Overall, Phantasma!Jun is a lot more.. emotionally dead..er than classic Jun (with a side of nihilism). They’re not the malicious type, but they don’t go out of their way to help people they don’t know (which sets them apart from classic or Anima Jun). While it’s difficult for them to get emotionally invested in people, once they do, they go 100% (i.e. Sola is, at first, the entirety of their moral compass). The outcome of Phantasma!Jun being in classic Jun’s position depends entirely on how much Phantasma!Jun likes Hijiri. If they do.. Welp. It’s not the Bad End AU anymore. At least not for Jun. (Can’t speak for the rest of the spirit world.)
Hopefully I’ll be able to do the rough editing tonight and then make some time with my beta to get to it when she can! Otherwise I’ll lay out some options and see what we can do.
as it is the fic sits around 8600 words so it will take some time for me to get through it! I know it’s late but please keep hanging on!!
I’m thinking of changing my blog icon here today... So if you guys see it change, that’s why! I’m still awkward-and-fluffy ‘cause url is the only thing I don’t change (plus it’s the best url I’ve made for myself ever). c:
