Wow, um...it’s been a bit of time. Things haven’t really stopped being crazy in the real world but I miss my rp family and I miss playing Regina and answering all your fun questions, so I’ll push past the crazy and try to get back into the swing of things! During Linguistics, we studied the idea of a pidgin, along with how words form, often by combining words. Fandoms on the internet often combine characters' names to refer to a pairing, so we identified that as a pidgin. Did similar pidgins exist--combining people's names to refer to a pairing or something else--exist in Antiquity?

Pidgin generally refers to a mixed language in which one language is clearly dominant, with some crossover of words from another language at the same time. I always thought it was fairly separate from the mixing of names done by fandoms, but that is an interesting way of looking at it. Anyway:
