❝ i’m not! i’m just, uh…offering critique. ❞ blackwall tries his best to up his vocabulary, though he could never amount to dorian and his fancy words—fingers run idly through his beard while dorian fiddles with his new attire. he’s never understood fancy clothes. rhinestones and silk have never amounted to much in his mind, having only experienced harshness on the open road, but seeing the mage dress up like that opens him up to the idea.

“I would have thought even your simple, southern eyes could see why.” For all the pains Blackwall was going through to sound scholarly, he was falling short of the mark. The effort, Dorian thought, was meant to offend him; and he met insults with his own smarting words.

“Colour is a tawdry way to draw attention, Blackwall. Look closer--- I know you are capable of that much. The moiré pattern on the silk frock looks stunning on my complexion... but I hardly call this ‘dressing up’.”

INTRODUCTIONS ARE TYPICALLY his strong suit. However, Ludwig doubts that there are many that can dispute the concerns that have him faltering in his greeting, slightly-widened eyes sliding from his records to meet the eyes of the boy – the one that the messenger from Administration says is their new scout.

Medic has little communication with their superiors, nor with the messengers themselves; locked away into his lab for most of the day as he is, Ludwig often hears his information second-hand. From what he can tell, the scout’s entrance at the RED base was unexpected, his introduction given by the messenger rushed. Nonetheless, it’s not an issue for Ludwig – scheduling medical check-ups require only a bit of shifting his own schedule around.

… but seeing Jeremy Jenkins for himself is another matter altogether. The information has all been provided before him in his files, but it does little to ease the jarring connection from the man in his files to the boy standing in his infirmary.  ❝ You’re – the team’s new Scout? ❞  

— Medic would have expected someone older, to say the least.

HIS  GAZE  SOFTENS  CONSIDERABLY  .  Where  the  circular  marks  of  exhaustion  ‘round  the  eye socket  seemed  far  more  prominent  at  the  lack  of  his  stalwart  stare  --  where  he  slumps  and  finds  immediate  comfort  in  the  idea  of  reveling  in  Elias’  mere  presence  alone  .  His  exhaustion  is  palpable  --- -  tangible  in  the  form  of  a  slow  gait  as  he  turns  to  walk .  Only  ,  leading  Elias  along  with  a  gentle  grasp  to  a  wrist  .  Ushering  him  away  from  prying  ear  and  eye  into  his  little  hideaway  --- -  nestled  among  towering  book  shelves  and  the  gentle  echo  of  his  own  voice  .  “  I  just  felt  the  need  to  see  you  .  Get  some  stress  of  my  chest  ,  I  suppose  .  It’s  the  usual  ,  really  .  ”
