The best way to describe how you felt was the phrase ‘death warmed over’. Your head was pounding and every 15 seconds or so you’d fall into a coughing fit in a poor attempt to cough out the gross mucous flooding your lungs. Overall, it kind of felt like a gummi ship had crash landed on top of you, risen up again, only to crash land on top of you one last time for good measure.
“[Name], uh, you kinda look like you’re dying.” Roxas said as simply as he could. He wore a look of concern on his face, but he was also standing as far away from you as he could while still being heard with his uniform shirt pulled up over his nose and mouth. The image was contradicting.
You tightened the scarf around your neck and tried your hardest to ignore the chill that was making you shiver in front of your locker. Despite wearing two jackets, and it still being pretty warm outside, you were freezing to death.
Riku shook his head and closed his locker, which just so happened to be by yours, “You have a fever, [Name]. Let me take you home, please?”
“We have that test in 3rd block! I’m not missing it!”
“You look like you’re gonna pass out before you even reach 1st block.” Roxas commented.
You turned to glare at him, but with the crummy way you felt it probably looked more pathetic than intimidating, “If you’re not in the vicinity of the conversation”, You motioned around yourself and Riku, “Then you don’t get an opinion.”
The statement was rounded off with a round of disgusting, loud coughs and Roxas looked like he was a second away from crawling into his locker to get away from you. Riku grabbed you by the shoulders and tried to push you down the hall where the nurse’s office would be.
“Riku, no!”
“[Name], you’re sick!” Riku argued, “Even if you take the test there is no way you’re gonna be able to focus on it while you’re dying.”
You scoffed and weakly fought against his pushes, “I am not dying, you big fat exaggerating babies.”
Roxas called out from the spot he was still at, not having moved an inch toward the two of you, “Go home, [Name]! Take medicine and feel better!”
“Bite me!” You called back and you heard Roxas laugh before heading to his first class of the day.
Riku was still steadily pushing you to the nurse’s office and didn’t even blink at your poor attempts to stop him. After fighting back for a second more, you had to stop just from exhaustion. Your entire body felt like it was going to just shut down in the middle of the hallway. Riku glanced at your face in worry, “You feeling ok?”
“I’m the picture of health.”
Riku rolled his eyes and dragged you into the empty nurse’s office. There was a sign up that said she’d be back in a few minutes. He pushed you back into a chair before sitting beside you. He hummed, “You know Mr. Braska will be more than fine with you missing the test today, right? He’ll let you make it up when you feel better.”
You crossed your arms and stuck out your lower lip in a pout, “I said I was fine.”
“No, Sora definitely gave you the flu.” Riku chuckled. “He’s at home, lying in bed watching cartoon reruns. Doesn’t that sound nice? You could be doing the same.”
“No.”
“No? You’d rather be sitting in a math class right now listening to someone drone on and on about factorials?” Riku replied.
You had to admit that sounded a little bit like what you assumed hell would be like, and Riku was right. Lying in bed, hopped up on cough syrup, with the TV playing old episodes of the Powerpuff Girls sounded like the greatest thing in the world.
Riku must have seen the look of contemplation on your face. He chuckled and pulled your head to lean against his shoulder. You quickly pulled back and cried out arguments about him getting sick too, but Riku just ignored you and pulled your head back down on his shoulder. He put his arm around you and leaned his head against the top of yours, trapping you there.
“Just let me take care of you.”
The idea of that did sound nice. You let your heavy eyes shut and focused on Riku’s hand which was caringly rubbing your arm. Yeah, that did sound nice.
