Finally getting around to posting some fanart on here. Garrett from Thief, this sketch is older but I've been reading fanfiction by sorrowsfall.
33: In what ways is your character like you? (I'd love to hear how each of them are like you in some way).
Thanks for asking! :D-Adair: probably the one who's most like me in terms of personality. Both of us are total Hufflepuffs, we want so much for the people around us to be happy, and we're both generally cheerful but can get emotional or moody. We also both really like pie and dessert in general.-Blythe: we both love plants and gardening. Otherwise I think the only other thing we have in common is that our favorite kind of crafting involves fiber arts. (We both work with yarn and embroidery, although I think her sewing skills are probably better than mine.)-Etri: our anxieties. Both of us have bad social anxiety, although Etri's general anxiety isn't as bad as mine is. We're also both asexual. -Dray: we’re both about the same size/height, we’re both agender, and we share a few of the same props (wand and juggling at the moment, although I want to pick up staff and fans at some point, too).-Sol: oh gosh. A love of glitter maybe? A short attention span? Honestly I can't think of much similarity here. (These are for this ask game. Anyone, feel free to send me in some more asks if you’d like.)
20: What is the most surprising thing about your character?
Original Character Asks
Out of the two I have, I suppose. Thanks for sending this in!
For Coby, the most surprising thing about him is his temper. Since he’s usually seen maintaining a reserved position and neutrality on most matters; not to mention an Overseer is kind of expected to be that way - though we know that’s not really the case - and he’s managed to establish a reputation of being calm and sensible under pressure. But there are some things that just don’t sit well with him at all that even the slightest prod about it would make him snappy. He’d try to prove he’s right, but it’s hard to sway the ignorant who think they’re all knowing.
For Ambrose, it’s his compassion. The Russian Mob is the most ferocious, violent, sophisticated, and deadly of all the mobs that I was considering making him a part of. They’re brutal and will cross lines that even the American mobs would never touch. And yet, he shares a sympathy and compassion for people. Sometimes it’s even the people on his family’s hit list.
@sorrowsfall -- answering your question about what we call a :( face in British English if we don’t call it a frown... I don’t actually think we’ve got a name for it?
We certainly wouldn’t call it a “frowny face”, because for us a frown is furrowed eyebrows or a scowl, like a >:( or >:| face, not a downturned mouth like :( .
I’ve always just referred to :( as a “sad face” or downturned mouth, but I dunno what other people would call it. I’ve not really heard the term “frowny face” used over here, anyway
So I guess for us Brits, someone frowning doesn’t necessarily mean they’re sad either -- they could be frowning in concentration or confusion, because we picture a frown as happening with the eyebrows and not necessarily the mouth.
EDITED TO ADD: @wordsarethebonesofmylovers -- yeah, until I saw that post on Tumblr, I had no idea Americans and Brits thought of frowns as completely different things either. I’m sure there are a few other British English vs American English language differences, too. I guess this is why occasionally American readers have responded in unexpected ways to my fanfic! XD
Commission for @sorrowsfall. I had the great privilege to be able to illustrate a book cover for one of their upcoming short stories, Serapin’s Last Stand. The characters are wonderful and the plot is gripping.
The story is Patreon exclusive, and can be found HERE.
