currently working on a fic that was MEANT to be a fun break fic for me but has now turned into Its Own Thing which i should have expected
slight au where the honmoon specifically chooses rumi as its first new hunter post sunlight sisters. it happens INSANELY early (earlier than both celine and miyeong have ever seen or heard of) and it happens entirely because rumi is a half-demon
half-demons in this au are ticking timebombs. they're plagued with death rather than guilt in shame; they slowly decay the world around them before decaying from the inside out. half-demons don't typically live past their forties or fifties if they're lucky, and they only ever get that old if they're guided by another half-demon who can help them out a bit
the honmoon has always loved rumi to death and sees this happening to her, so it immediately forges a bond with her, elevating her to hunter status. this doesn't get rid of her patterns or even her tie to death, but it does give her the one thing it can:

rumi being a hunter means death is staved off of her, for now. the goalpost suddenly shifts from "find the three new hunters and seal the honmoon until the next three arrive" and goes to "THIS BABY IS ON A TIME CRUNCH AND IF THE HONMOON ISN'T SEALED SHE WILL DIE AND THERE'S A GOOD CHANCE EVERYONE ELSE AROUND HER WILL ALSO DIE" (how much of that is true? who knows! celine has literally never had to deal with this before and there have never been any other half-demon hunters! she's kind of just guessing and Doomspiraling)
rumi in this au is way more mentally ill BAHAHA she's trained to be perfect not only to seal the honmoon, but to quite literally keep herself alive + keep the people around her alive. her goal isn't just to get rid of her patterns, but to make sure that she doesn't accidentally kill the world or kill her best friends like she's been told she might end up doing all her life
