He worked very long and odd hours, something they were adjusting to still despite being within Raccoon City for the last four months. There would be days he wouldn't crawl into bed until two in the morning or somedays he wouldn't come home at all, just stuck working in a lab and making use of the sleep pods. It wasn't ideal, but the work was relentless and endless. He didn't complain or make comments about it to anyone at work-- no. He kept his nose down and did what he was supposed to because the pay was great, the benefits better, and it was secure. He didn't necessarily know what he was building towards with helping to create such a thing, but he didn't ask. He wasn't paid to ask questions and they made that very clear on his first day of working within the labs under the city. He wasn't even meant to share what his day was like with his girlfriend and if anyone asked... he was working for Umbrella as a pharmaceutical biochemist.
Laura understood though. She did. She would ask, of course, but he would just give her a general blanket answer on whether it was good or bad. Usually bad came with having to stay a couple days on end, but she was good about it. Very good. It felt unfair to her, but she also never complained. Sure, yes she'd mention she missed him when he'd call to say he was staying longer... but @byruthie never whined, never said she hated what he did, and she was always so eager to welcome him back home. He was lucky to have her and he knew it too, which is exactly why he had a ring stashed away at his desk at work. It was in a locked drawer tucked under some other things, but it was there as a reminder to why he was doing all this. He wanted to give her the best life that he could. He just needed the time to plan around asking her. Wanted it to be special. Needed it to be...
𝟭𝟵𝟵𝟳, the final month of it, had the city covered in a blanket of snow. He had been originally scheduled to come in and do some work, but after receiving a call that the train system which took them to the facility was frozen over... it seemed he was getting a rare day off. He'd rolled over in their bed after hanging up to find where Laura was laying, arms slipping around her again to draw her back against his chest. He smiled softly as he brushed a kiss just below and behind her ear. He murmured that he had the day off to spend with her knowing she was also off. A very rare incident indeed. With the alarm clock turned off and nothing to get them out of bed, he begin boldly exploring her with his hands. Long digits brushing and palms sliding against her nightgown. He was tempted to roll them, get her under him, but with her back against his chest he felt unbelievably close already.
you make it hard to think straight.
The confession that fell from her lips came as he was covering a breast with his hand, groping gently. His other had dipped down to pull at the gown, lifting it enough to where the hand could slid over her thigh and hip under it. He chuckled a low sound near her ear, kissing down along her neck, "Perhaps that's my intention, hm?" He hummed out, "Perhaps I don't want us producing a single unnecessary thought today... you know, seeing as I now have the day off." A grin began to spread along his lips, unable to hide it as he kissed her pulse point, "Maybe I just want us to get lost in each other."
