Prompt: xiv hearts ablaze day 5 - having fun/warmth Pairing: Sori/Urianger/Thancred
Sori does not care much for snow. It’s cold and wet, two things she greatly loathes. This morning, a thick layer of the white powder covers Old Sharlayan like a weighted blanket. Despite the chill, Urianger is determined to perform a rigorous day of research at the Noumenon and Sori graciously accepts to accompany him. The crunch of ice underfoot blends together with Urianger’s explanations as they make their journey. Even the birds’ songs have been silenced in the cold.
There is something amiss. The hair on the back of Sori’s neck stands at attention to the yet unknown threat. She halts in her steps, interrupting a confused Urianger’s stride with an outstretched hand.
“What troubles thee?”
Before a reply leaves her lips, a frozen projectile strikes square in her back. She turns rapidly to face her assailant, only to lock onto Thancred’s smirking face. The flame of competition ignites within her belly—it was on. She swiftly dodges his next throw, seeking refuge behind a nearby tree. It’s every man for himself.
She did not partake in snowball fights during her childhood in the desert, but she was a quick study. The snow takes a minute to pack into shape and Sori bitterly regrets not wearing gloves. The flakes burn her hands with frost, numbing her fingers. A deep breath and she enters the fray with vigor.
“You will not best me,” Sori calls, throwing her first snowball in Thancred’s direction. It misses, but she dodges a stray shot from Urianger.
“We will see about that!”
“I am not prepared to yield either,” Urianger declares soberly.
The time passes in a flurry of snow and laughter. She is beginning to tire and the end of this battle draws near. Her opponents must be as exhausted as she is. All of her clothes are wet and caked with ice, but she’s having too much fun to care. The match concludes in a three way draw, all collapsed on the ground as they gasp in unison for air.
“Remind me never to challenge you to a snowball fight again,” Thancred says breathlessly.
“You already knew better than to take me on. You simply can’t help yourself, can you?”
“Hmph.”
“My research shall have to be delayed until tomorrow. Might I suggest we relocate our gathering to warmer environs?”
“I’m afraid I might freeze to death if we linger any longer.” Sori complains, slowly standing up despite .
“Not to worry, my lady. I can think of a few things we can do to warm ourselves,” Thancred teases.
“I am most curious as to what methods thou means to employ.”
“Oh, I’m sure Thancred will be gracious enough to demonstrate when we are home.” Sori chuckles. Cold’s grasp would soon be overtaken by precious warmth.
