DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince’s fourth studio album, Homebase, was released on July 23, 1991. It achieved significant success, reaching number 12 on the Billboard 200 charts and number 5 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. Critically, the album received positive reviews. It was certified Platinum and also won an American Music Award for Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop Album in 1992.
“Summertime,” the second track and lead single from the album, garnered DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince their second Grammy Award for Best Single in early 1992. Will Smith revealed that he purposely altered his voice to sound deeper than usual for this particular album.
