We met a Belgian family of 5, a mother, grandmother and 3 young kids, climbing the desert like they’re just doing their regular stroll in a park. I was especially proud of the eldest kid, an 11 year old, that just took off by himself and went in his own expedition of solitude. It was such a majestic view, to see him almost disappear in the distance. Perhaps because survival of life is so vividly apparent, for the people, animals, plants and even the earth underneath your feet. They all want one thing, and that’s water. When sun is about to set, colors of your surrounding is changing incredibly. Perhaps it’s because of all the iron and minerals in the dunes, the air and in the atmosphere. Result is beautiful lighting at sunset and sunrise. #deadvlei has a new resident, a #crow couple who have a nest on this single tree to the north side of Deadvlei. You can perhaps watch them feeding their babies either early hours of morning, (before the park is open) or early hours of evening, right before sunset, which the park will be closed by then, and all the visitors have already exited the park. I was lucky to watch them very close by, while feeding their chicks, alternately, while the park is closed, in complete silence. The only sound was my own breathing rhythm, the light morning breeze, and the flap of their wings.
