THIS WEEKEND!
It has been a very busy weekend for your girl. I had a show at Northern Pacific Coffee Co on thursday, which went all right. Yesterday, I had a show for valentines day at Half Pint Pizza Pub, which was amazing! I danced, sang, twirled and jumped off the stage at some point. The thing that I love about music is that it brings people together from tone, to gender, age and people with different lifestyles.
While the weekend has been amazing, and is not over yet, I have been fighting through a tough cold. I can honestly say, I am really proud of myself! It definitely has not been easy, hell, its been down right nerve wracking. I think to myself “What if I choke on my mucus? What if I start having a cough attack mid song?!” Its all mental people. I just focused on how I wanted my show to go and thats the way it went and more.
Sometimes, its hard to find balance between creating and the business side of music. I went to an ASCAP Expo last summer and was delighted to see Aloe Blacc interviewing Bill Withers. ( These are NOT EXACT words, but very close) Aloe asked, “ What advice can you give people who are trying to make a career out of music?” Bill Withers replied, “There is a difference between music, and music business.” That really hit home for me. Basically, my translation is, it doesn’t matter how spectacular you are. If I’m not making moves on the chess table, I will forever be a pond dreaming about the other side. There is also a lot to be said about where someone is happy in a certain position. Well, if you must know, I’m trying to “check-mate” the music industry.
Much Lo^e,
Sotaria
