I found this song while searching through related artists on Spotify. I was listening to "500 Miles" - aka yesterday's SOTD - and just started clicking at random related artists and listened to their top songs. Then I found this.
The Cranberries formed in 1989. They're an Irish rock band who also mixes Irish folk, pop, indie-pop, post-punk, and pop rock elements to create unique songs. The Cranberries actually started out pretty small, but once they released theire single "Dreams" in 1992, they slowly gained popularity. They released their "Everybody Else Is Doing It, So Why Can't We?" album in 1993 and later released four more before going on a hiatus. But, in 2012, they released a new album titled "Rose".
At first when I listened to "Dreams", I thought, "Hey. They is pretty catchy. But...I think I've heard this before...somewhere..." So I listened to it more. After a couple times, I had a sudden epiphany. I had heard this song before. I was at Dollywood, an amusement park in Tennessee created by none other than Dolly Parton. I think this was in 2006 or 2007, sometime in early middle school I know for sure. More likely 6th grade... Anyway, my family and another family went to the Great Smoky Mountains over the summer and stayed at a resort-ish place pretty close to Dollywood. So we went over to Dollywood for a day and went on rides and saw events. One event was this Irish dance stage where a dance troop was performing traditional Irish and Celtic dances with traditional folk music. One of the songs they played during one of the acts was this song, "Dreams" by The Cranberries.
I totally forgot about this song, but now that I found it, it brings back memories. Ugh. I miss middle school and it's carefreeness.
Anyway, I really like this song too. I like how it has that rock feel intertwined with some sort of punkish, popish and folkish tinges. And the beat is really catchy too. And the vocals are good too. The lead's soft and silky voice, though kind of editted, makes the song flow. I think this'll be another song on repeat for me.
