2. What is your favorite snippet of dialogue?
part of a longer conversation I’m fond of from servants of the dead king:
“I told you once that your determination to see goodness in people would be your undoing,” the dragon said. “But I see now that I was wrong. It was not your ability to see goodness. It was my inability.”
The dragon let out another shuddering breath, transferring more of his limited body heat into the ever-melting snow. Merlin said nothing, but his eyes swirled with gold and flames danced from his fingertips and to the dragon’s scales, and Kilgharrah sighed in relief.
After a moment’s silence, he spoke again—halting; defeated.
“When you came to Camelot, I knew immediately that Emrys had come. All I could think was that the sky, the sky might be mine after all. But I also knew the prophecies spoke of a second great figure, a king, and that there were two souls required for what I needed. With freedom so close to my claws, in my arrogance I could not allow you to leave. I knew of Morgana’s danger, and the thought of Uther having any part of a prophecy was too repugnant for me to swallow.”
“So you chose Arthur by process of elimination,” Merlin said. “Everything about our destiny, about two sides of one coin, being destined for great things… it was all a lie.”
“...Yes.” Kilgharrah looked away. “I had little care for whether I was right about the prophecy or not; only that it would break me free from the hell that I’d been damned to. When you set me free, I… targeted Arthur. Not Uther. I was furious at him for putting me in this situation, furious at myself for putting him in his. I thought if I could kill both of you, none of the prophecies—or my lies—would matter.”
4. Do you prefer writing long or short fics?
Short fics for sure. partially bc they usually actually get posted instead of being futzed with for years. I really enjoyed getting to explore a theme, usually in the context of a single scene, and it’s easier for me to keep it tightly focused in a oneshot.
11. What’s a fanfic idea you haven’t done yet?
*gestures at the 50+ concepts in my drafts folder*
One that’s a little different from my usual tho is a fic potentially titled if i were to stay that’d be more of a montage/introspective fic of Nile & her family over the years, assuming Nile decided to tell them she’s still alive after all.
