Power to the People!! Which people?!?
What gets to which people?! How?
SOUCCS brings power to the people of the future, sharing valuable knowledge through The HTMlles 11 Time Capsule project!
In the future, what if everyone could afford power? How do we get it? How do we pay for it? What if everyone had the right price? A story, simply. No more burning dead dinosaurs or creating nuclear poison in the oceans in order to update your FB status!
Starting NOW Date = 0, we ART-Gineers, define a new exchange rate for power.
At the SOUCCS station, a performance-installation, energy is traded in exchange for a story from the power-needy visitor. Various stories collected are broadcast via a hand-made short-wave FM transmitter in SOUCCS. Eventually, these stories will find their way into community radio via the XX Files Radio show, on CKUT.
SOUCCS collects Solar Power to provide a pure power charge, this is notably simple since most digital (USB) devices are direct current just like the sun. We also convert DC to AC on SOUCCS, so we can provide power to 110V or even 220V devices.
SOUCCS is a digital, performance art collaboration Valérie d. Walker created, and she presents it with Vancouver Media Artist Bobbi L. Kozinuk in order to explore digital connections to power and energy.
As visibly "different" transmedia artists, we find ideas of access, power, environmental responsibility and digital arts integration into layers of society, permeate the modalities, personas, and traces, out of which we construct the future. Zero Future means we can define the exchange rate.
Phobic tendencies of all kinds provide a leaping off point from which we can (re)create and (re)emphasize alternative modes of representation, creating changes in the steps involved in accessing power, especially in the power structures which used to control us.
