@caielu Sorry for the extreme lateness. I said a day late but I caught a virus on an airplane back home from the holiday. So…. the late panel took over a week to finish. T_T

Hello, it's your secret santa here~ I'm very sorry that it arrived a bit later than expected; I'm on vacation (which I think I already mentioned before somewhere) and there was a bit of a miscommunication in a rush to get the link sent to the right people. Regardless, I hope you still enjoy the fanfiction, (strangely Ranpoe for a Soukoku entry, but I'm not judging because I had furn writing it) and have a great holiday.

Oh if you by any chance have ao3, could you send me your account so that I can gift it to you on there too?

Summary: Poe has no idea what to get Ranpo for Christmas, so he has to resort to other, let's say 'unconventional' methods that eventually lead up to something he didn't see coming (quite literally too)

Title is taken in a like styling of the real Edgar Allan Poe, who's poems had the title of 'Dear ...' (So-and-so) Concept taken from @rachiebird on tumblr and discord (haha I needed a bit of help)

Edgar Allan Poe was not having a good day today. But then again, when was he ever?

Gift shopping is something he considered the ‘bane’ of his existence. The very concept itself was enough for him to tear his hair out, and that was saying something, considering he adored his emo look almost as much as he did Karl, his raccoon (perfectly normal, there was a sea demon employed in the organization anyways), and Ranpo, his boyfriend.

On a side note, how did he even muster enough courage to ask him out?

Oh right. He invited the brilliant detective to read a manuscript, which he immediately solved, and then proceeded to ask Edgar why he wanted to ask him on a date. The worst part was that he didn’t even mention it. That’s when he learned that surprises were never something that would work on Edogawa Ranpo.

Honestly, why was this so hard? It’s not like he could Google ‘what to get your smart boyfriend.’ Actually, he could.... nope. No. Poe refused to submit to the almighty Google. It was like he was admitting that he wasn’t as smart, if not smarter, as a machine.

Asking a store clerk about what he should get his brand-new boyfriend, while having a raccoon on his shoulders and suspicious looking bangs covering the majority of his face, may not be the most pleasant experience either of them would go through.

Maybe Fitzgerald could help:

“Hello, it’s the Guild’s fantastic leader! How may I help you?”

“It’s Edgar, sir.”

“Damn, I thought you were the party company I bought yesterday. Whatever. Do you need anything?”

“Well, I need to pick a-“

“Alcott, take this call.”

“Yes Sir.”

“Miss Alcott?”

“Hello Edgar, what do you need, um, help with?”

“I need to get a present for my boyfriend-“

Somewhere in the background, Scott yells, “Get him a yacht!”

“But sir, he can’t afford a yacht.”

“Yachts are great presents. They are a multipurpose mode of transportation, and they show off how rich you are... What are you doing standing there Alcott? You should be writing down these ideas down for a future article or news story.”

“I’m sorry, I have to go. Maybe you could get him-“

The line cut off, making Poe wonder how their organization managed to still be a dominant force in North America.

Of course the Boss would tell him to get a massive boat for Ranpo. Truth be told, Ranpo was the type that would never use it, but instead, fill it up with all the random junk he had.

Hawthorne was next on his contact list:

“Mr. Hawthorne, hello?”

“Ah hello Edgar. What do you need from me, or God, if that is what you seek advice on.”

“You sound like an old person, Nate.”

“Be quiet Mitch.” He hissed, but Edgar could still hear him loud and clear.

“Do you want me to hang up, or...?”

“Sorry, I just lost my composure. What do you need?”

“Can you help me think of a present for my boyfriend?”

Now that Poe thought about it, maybe asking the most religious person out of the entire organization that question, may have not been the smartest decision to make.

Silence from Nathaniel followed, but he could hear Margaret’s snickering in the background.

“Nate’s going to lose it.”

“See I respect you, and I respect all people (mostly) because that is how Jesus lived, so I’m not going to answer. I do not want to forbid or allow you to do something-“

“You should just get him some se-“

“Mitchell!”

“Oops. Well, sorry Edgar, I tried. I’m going to hang up before Nate can begin his tirade. I wish you luck!”

“Thank-“

The line went dead again. He felt like the Guild has some sort of fetish for hanging up or something. Poe was being oppressed.

Well, if the Guild wasn’t going to be helpful, he would turn to the next best thing.

The (Armed) Detective Agency.

He should have called Yosano first, but she kind of scared him, and he was just way too stressed to be thinking properly anyways. It wasn’t too late though. She would be his last hope.

“It’s the boyfriend. I was wondering when you were going to call.”

“Huh?”

“No present yet, I’m guessing.”

“How did you know? I didn’t even ask you anything yet.”

“Girl instincts.”

“Okay...?”

“And the fact that your GPS coordinates are in Yokohoma’s largest shopping district.”

“Why do you have my coordinates?! Is it because I’m in the Guild?”

“No. It’s because you’re Ranpo’s boyfriend.”’

“Okay, sure...”

“So back to business. There are two things you should know. First off, you should have just gotten him a bag of candy to be honest.”

“That’s too simple.”

“Exactly. It’s easy and he’ll love it. But... if you want something more dazzling or big, get him a complicated puzzle. I don’t recommend that though, since he solves them so fast anyways.”

“My stories aren’t an option then.”

“What are you talking about? Of course they are. Ranpo can never stop bragging about how one day they’ll become famous and how much time and effort you put into it.”

“Thanks Yosano.”

“The other thing was supposed to mention to you... Ranpo is headed towards your locations as we speak.”

Edgar felt two hands covering his eyes.

“Too late. He’s already here.”

“Well, sorry. Have fun though!”

“Thanks anyways.”

This time, he was the one that hung up.

“Ranpo, you can let go now.”

“It’s called a surprise.” Ranpo sounded extremely childish, and was probably pouting to be honest.

“That’s the one thing I don’t have...” Edgar muttered, still blinded and unable to see anything through his hands.

“Hm, what was that?”

He slapped himself mentally. “Nothing.”

Ranpo let his hands go. “I’m ready to reveal my present to you.”

Godamn, even his procrastinating boyfriend had his gift ready. He took a deep breath before turning around to look at his present. When he did, Edgar couldn’t help but to let out a small laugh. He had to admit, his ‘present’ was amazing.

“So... what do you think?” Ranpo spun around dramatically, showcasing the giant bright red bow on his head. He was confident enough to walk around with getting embarrassed, so all the stares he was getting got ignored. To match, he didn’t have his regular detective clothing on, but wore an outfit similar to Atsushi’s. The dress shirt was untucked and slightly opened, almost as dishevelled as his chocolate hair.

Edgar smiled. “You spoil me.”

Ranpo’s eyes lit up in delight and satisfaction.”I’m the best Christmas present anyone could receive.”

“Yes you are.” The raven haired man pulled him in for a kiss. It was short, yet sweet and full of the sense of joy and innocence that the Christmas holidays brought upon everyone.

He pulled away, but let their foreheads continue to touch as they made eye contact. “Ne, you don’t have my present yet do you?”

Poe scratched his head sheepishly. “Maybe...?”

Ranpo looked at him with amusement. “To be fair, I didn’t know what to get you either, but I didn’t confess that at all... It’s all to make you feel better.”

“Sure...” The tone of his voice implied otherwise though.

Linking his fingers through Edgar’s, the detective smiled softly. “This is enough.”

“Really?”

“Well, if you insist, then maybe you could get me some candy...”

“Haha, anything for you Ranpo.”

soukokuweek’s Secret Santa event has nicely concluded!

We would like to give our thanks to all participants who made this happen. Hopefully, we can set up another event in the future if the interest is there!

With that being said, there are still a few Santas out there who are a bit late with their gifts, but rest assured that the mods are doing their best to make sure everyone who participated will get a gift. If you happen to still be waiting and no one has contacted you yet (either a mod or your Santa), then shoot an ask/ send a PM soon as possible so we can make arrangements.

There were 63 eligible Secret Santas, and the selection was made using random.org. First, we made an alphabetical list of the participants. After that, we had two mods generated separate sets of random numbers (2-64, basing from our list). They came out as Set A & Set B. Combining them into one list, a randomizer was used to select the winner.
