I'm find it funny that soukoku week dates are announced after a ship week announced theirs and you only have one week separating the two. Was that a coincidental?
Short answer: Yes, it was a coincidence. We’re very sorry that we did not notice information about other ship weeks during the time leading up to our decision. Internally, the mods were making the general timeframe for SKK Week 2017 for over a year. We did not disclose this completely to the public. After the decision to do a Soukoku Secret Santa event during the second cour of the anime, we already had plans to have SKK Week 2017 with a late April, May, or June start date. By the time March rolled around, we realized May and April simply were not possible for us. June-July were in our minds from the beginning, as our previous SKK Week was also held in June 2016.
Still, thanks for bringing this to our attention, as it does bring up a good point.
If you are planning on participating in other ship weeks near the timing of Soukoku Week:
Please ask the other ship weeks about their scheduling, and make sure you can submit within their deadlines.If you feel that the schedule does not allow you enough time, early and late submissions will be accepted.
Early submissions will be reblogged during the actual Soukoku Week. If you submit early, please send a link to your post in an ask or a submit and please let us know it is for Soukoku Week 2017. You may also simply use our submission form if you do not wish to post on your own blog.
Late submissions are not encouraged; but as we had done last year, we will continue reblogging #soukokuweek throughout the remainder of the month. Last year, out of over 200 submissions, about 18% were late submissions. A handful were early. Of course, inspiration doesn’t necessarily follow a schedule, but SKK Week should–by definition–last for just one week.
Finally, as for the long answer: How we came to decide the dates of Soukoku Week:
Our first SKK week in June 2016 fell on the week of Dazai Osamu’s birthday. From the start, it was planned to be after the airing of the first “Soukoku scene” in the anime (Episode 10, aired on June 9, 2016) to keep the hype going.
After a wonderful SKK Week, we decided that we would be interested in doing another week in 2017, again hoping to make it an “annual” thing with a similar start date, with the possibility of a revival during the second cour.
A vote brought us to host a Soukoku Secret Santa instead.
By the spring, after considering many available weeks, we (1) decided to not dominate Dazai’s nor Chuuya’s birthday; and (2) we wanted to make sure we would have plenty of free time to run another SKK Week. Based on past experience, we were pleasantly surprised by the volume of participation in both SKK Week and SKK Secret Santa, but it did take a sizeable time commitment. Late June and near the July 4th holiday ended up being the best for the mods in terms of free time from work and/or school.
We put out a poll in early April, in which the actual dates of the SKK Week 2017 were put to a vote. Our final decision on the dates reflected the vote’s results.
All that being said, if SKK Week is in fact on the same week as another BSD ship week, please let us know immediately, as we would like to work out our schedules with their mods.
