Clair strikes with a grunt, and the weight rockets upwards, barely grazing the winning bell. The tamer exhales and steps back with a satisfied nod of approval.

"...Haven't been training over the last few days," she mutters to herself, rotating her arm tenderly. "This result's expected."

Her mood brightens considerably once the prize is announced. As she drapes the serpentine plushie across her shoulders, a paint-stained capsule opens from her belt. Linvala, one of Clair's ever-curious Dragonairs, unfurls on the fairground grass, immediately moving in and nudging her much softer doppelganger.

And, out of all times, Clair's newest team member decides to introduce himself now, the little Duskull materializing through the plushie with a happy, one-eyed greeting for his new serpentine friend. Linvala recoils with a haughty, offended huff, wasting little time whipping her strong tail around to lash back out...

Before Clair can react, Duskull simply poofs away on the spot, and Linvala's strike whiffs harmlessly through the air. People are starting to stare, so the proud Gym Leader finally decides to put her foot down before things get out of hand. "Linvala. Kokusho. Enough."

The heiress wastes no time returning both infighting Pokemon back to their capsules, sighing into the comfy Dragonair wrapped around her neck. Part of her already wants to return the Duskull to Matsuba, but the dragon's pride thrumming in her veins would never allow for such a cowardly retreat. She gazes at Kokusho's Dusk Ball and huffs with a new surge of determination. Not a dragon?

Not a problem.

Janine has every right to be curious--Clair is a notorious recluse normally, but tonight's party has definitely softened her up. The perfect time to strike up a conversation is now, while the frosty Gym Leader is fully emerged from her shell.

With a nod, Clair waves Janine back out onto the carrier's deck so they can hear each other better, the salty sea breeze helping to dampen the deafening music echoing from within the boat.

"I don't really go to Kanto much unless I have to anymore. Training, patrolling, time wasted traveling, you know the drill--staying sharp means shutting myself away," she answers with a casual honesty, waving a dismissive hand in the air before frowning slightly. "And if you saw my last TV commercial, no you didn't. The League forced me to do all that, and I'll never forgive them. Hmph."

"It is good to see you, though--and in such a detailed costume, too," Clair brightens with a smile. "You and Matsuba may conspire to make my life...eventful sometimes, but..." (She leans in confidentially, lowering her voice.) "...I still think that you're one of the few people in the League who can truly keep up with me. Drive-wise, that is."

"How's Fuchsia? Giving challengers hell, I hope."
