Not necessarily a mean trick, but Varian could absolutely pull off a full-scale fake haunting given enough time, and would like to do so to Travis at some point just to see him scared. As for genuinely mean tricks, well, he can always slip someone various kinds of potions. And then there’s the old “sneak up behind them wearing the ventilator welding mask with the glowing eyes and voice modulator” schtick. That’s more fun than he cares to admit, as is various flavors of “pretend to be an actual wizard”.
