I know we often talk about how Soul and Black Star seemed to grow distant overtime despite starting the story being besties. I'd say they might be growing distant but that's also because their character arcs seemed to somewhat contrast each other's: namely BS chased godhood, while Soul chased humanity. BS doubles down on his need for spotlight after Kishin revival, while Soul retreated to his shell even further. Either way they came dangerously close to falling into the wrong paths: BS was basically nearly overcame by his ego while Soul increasingly didn't know who he is that he fell prey to madness anyway. BS achieved his goal to surpass human limits and became the Big Guy of the team prided for his sheer singular raw power, while Soul became the guy who could bring people's powers together.

However, in the end despite their contrasting ways, they are somehow able to achieve the same abilities anyway, as seen with how BS is able to simply catch and redirect lasers with his bare hands while Soul is able to outright steal enemy's repertoire and use their power against themselves through teamwork.

Technically it was Soul who was able to pierce through Asura too using the power of Group Resonance while BS was severely injured throughout the battle. So...lol.

I feel like in any other shounen, Black Star and Soul could actually be rivals who are supposed to represent different ends of the spectrum of the paths one could take within its universe.
