What kind of instrument would be suitable for a sound-based Genjutsu user? I've been thinking a lot, but I keep coming back to flutes due to practical reasons (size, material, weather influence, etc), but giving my OC a flute would just feel like a Tayuya ripoff somehow. Do you have any instrument suggestions or what to keep an eye on when creating a sound-based user?
This is a novel thought but: if you don’t mind the lack of visual appeal and like the cloud of confusion, you can consider percussion instruments.
Hand-drums, for example, are small and lightweight - easy to carry and use. Rhythms are famous for being able to trigger a psychological reaction in humans IRL, so if your genjutsu amplifies the rhythms / sounds, it’s just as viable a weapon as a flute.
Or a wooden fish, or a those scraping instruments, or those rice-in-a-shake-bottle or impromptu improvised instruments to throw your opponent off guard because they don’t know what to expect, or just their voice, or whistling… etc etc etc
Don’t limit yourself by only thinking of melodic instruments when it comes to some utilitarian as ‘what am I going to turn into a weapon’ think about the function of the technique, then backtrack to the various ways it can be created, then consider what are the objects that can create those things.
