ICYMI: I was lucky enough to talk to @johnhenrywusa recently about my standpoint regarding #soundproofdc (857 views and counting!!) And I want to clarify a few things 1. I dont want anyone to be suffering here - musician, worker, after work householder. There needs to be a happy compromise. 2. The bill was introduced as an emergency bill, and didn't consult any DC musician to provide different perspectives or solutions. 3. The two hearings that took place before the bill was lodged - again - weren't communicated about to any DMV musician in order to provide a balanced outlook. 4. $300 in fines or TEN days in jail is ludicrous when it comes to "punishment" for playing music. 5. DC is built on a culture that thrives on music. The home of American punk and GoGo genres, DC is also huge on jazz and blues - all of which use loud unamplified instruments. This bill targeted amplification of 80db, so creates a heck of a slippery slope when it comes to enforcing the law. MORAL: I'm sure there are perspectives I'm missing here, and if so, I welcome your feedback and filling in the holes of my knowledge. But dont attack each other. The whole point of delaying or stopping this bill is to allow us musicians to be involved in the conversation. After all: our music strives for love, community and connection: not animosity, anger and belittlement. (at Washington, District of Columbia)
