Soundtracked 23: A Very Broken Arts Christmas
For Broken Arts' third Christmas we decided to do another concert and our first all-day Soundtracked. Money and food was raised for Pickering's Cat Town animal shelter and the show was the launch party for the second issue of our zine Now Or Never. We also had an artificial tree donated to us, which we decorated with ornaments, including the ones we painted at Soundtracked 21. The tree was to be raffled off with that money also going to the animal shelter but no bids were placed.
Soundtracked 23: A Very Broken Arts Christmas December 10, 2011 @ Mad Café live: Darling Meadow Bloody Boy Blue Watershed Hour Chris & Cassy The Cane Toads Nick Reynolds with: the launch of Now Or Never #2 Broken Arts lineup: Harley, Lori-Anne, Defne, Erin, Ashley
We thought a fun change from our Soundtracked 2 Christmas show would be to have all the bands play holiday songs. As such we put out invitations months in advance. Regardless of this Katrina James and Alley Kat & The Boozehounds wound up having to drop out close to the show. The rest of the day went well, though. Darling Meadow and Nick Reynolds played a selection of traditional songs on piano and Bloody Boy Blue played a handful of original songs about winter while Watershed Hour, The Cane Toads, and Chris & Cassy mixed in Christmas covers with their originals. 84 people passed through the door over the span of six hours, although only $104 was raised.
With that, 2011 was in the books. It was the strongest year for Broken Arts yet and with our strong fall finish we felt good about the direction we were heading in for 2012. If the past was any indication there would be new members, departures, new bands, and more firsts. Whatever was coming, Broken Arts would survive it. We always did.
