I have strong feelings about the Fubuki brothers and their portrayal in AreOri. Thankfully, I don't like to whine online, and I found some passionate writers that have taken it into their hands to write some amazing fics exploring their characters. I'm gonna scream about that instead!

I had to highlight the second rec despite it being found in the first one because I think it's really good and all Fubuki bro fans should read it!!!

Additional notes:: Despite the number of works, most of them are one shots so they were pretty easy to get through. This series includes the Legacy of the Bear Killer series.

Bookmark notes:: Really interesting post-AreOri fic exploring Atsuya's life after Shirou graduates and leaves the soccer team. As canon shows, he's a really difficult person to get along with and the fic rides on that. Lots of trouble ensues and Atsuya gets character development!

Additional notes:: Props to the title. I think it summarizes the fic really well.

SUMMARY: Everything in Gouenji Shuuya's life is a little bit dark. Then, he meets Endou Mamoru by a trick of fate.

Bookmark notes:: This has to be one of the best IE AU I've read this year. The amount of thought gone into this, from "what kind of area of medicine would X character fit into?" to ships to how character relationships would change in an professional setting without having met through soccer--yes you read that right--so they lead vastly different lives. There are so many characters in this fic! Endou is written so well and Gouenji's internalized self-hatred and daddy issues are at the forefront of this story. I frigging enjoyed reading every second of this monster of a fic. Do beware of the content warnings. Gouenji displays anxious and depressive behaviors and thought patterns which may upset some reads. That aside, I think it fits really well with his canon characterization and the AU concepts introduced. In other words, "Gouenji without soccer as a safe space is more of a mess of a human being than he already is in canon."

SUMMARY: Endou is sad. Gouenji loves him too much. So, they go to Italy. (Edited 09/09/2024)

Bookmark notes:: An EnGou fic with a little bit of an AU. From author's notes: GO happened but Chrono Stone nor Galaxy. EnGou aren't dating so this is a trip entirely for Endou with Gouenji trying to do his best to put the smile back on his best friend/crush. Other couples appear too. This fic reminds me of a BL manga where the couple travels around the world and meet a lot of people. It reads like a travel fic with a dash of EnGou set in Italy. Naturally, due to Gouenji being who he is, the getting together part isn't so easy (thus the length which I frankly respect). That means this is a slow burn EnGou travel fic. I went into this for the EnGou and stayed for the free trip across Italy. The author said they're local so I trust they know what they're talking about.

Additional notes:: You could technically follow the same path as EnGou in this fic throughout Italy. It's feels that's accurately written. I cannot assure you will not want to travel to Italy after reading this fic.

SUMMARY: Everyone has different reasons for playing soccer; some healthier than others.

Bookmark notes:: Can't believe a WIP with a single chapter has me by the chokehold. But then I'm not normal about this guy and the author seems to have a fantastic grasp on his character so here I am twiddling my thumbs while patiently waiting for the next chapter that may never come.

SUMMARY: Kazemaru tries to dissuade Gouenji from shooting Fire Tornado at people whenever they're upset about something. It shakes Gouenji up more than he would like to admit. (In which Gouenji is confronted with the impossible ordeal of having to communicate with people. And the mortifying reality that people might actually care about him.)

Bookmark notes:: This fic takes Gouenji's habit of shooting Fire Tornado to people (ie. Endou) seriously. It's set after tje Raimon vs. Teikoku district finals match and before the start of the Nationals. The first half is in Kazemaru's (an outsider) POV and the second is from Gouenji's in first person. Additional notes:: There's a vague reference to the author's Trust Falls fic. Mandatory content warning for Gouenji Katsuya and their tense father-son relationship.

SUMMARY: Being at Kidokawa after the Football Frontier finals with Teikoku is not exactly Gouenji’s favourite time to be alive. At Raimon, well, trusting others is a difficult habit to rebuild.

Bookmark notes:: Bit of a prequel to Hidden Scars. I really enjoy reading fics about Gouenji's time at Kidokawa and before and after Yuuka's accident.
