I was listening to an @npr affiliate -a man from Oklahoma called in to give his 2centz about trump’s latest, that is he didn’t want to worry people about the virus back in February… This man with a very heavy southern accent said to the interviewer that Trump -back in February- made sure he alerted all his cronies in the #stockmarket so they could move their money... he also said that what Trump is doing is making sure that he gets police departments to align with him as well as the NRA and bikers… And then he literally pleaded on the phone to listeners to vote for @joebiden....”We cannot take four more years of this crook… He will destroy our democracy… “ This from a #southernman in Oklahoma… Another reason to hope🇺🇸💙 #voteblue2020 (at United States) https://www.instagram.com/p/CFANPB_lBIQ/?igshid=1hb34t77l43gl

After the Gold Rush POLITICAL OVERTONES, No. 6 – So unlikely, Neil Young’s being a star, like, a major star almost everyone knows. What eccentric writing. What eccentric, high, strained, nasal singing. But when all the background vocals are in place and all the instruments play pretty, it’s inexplicably gorgeous, or stirring, or wild, or any number of adjectives. Then you come across the title of a song you’re not all that familiar with called, “I Believe In You” and you kind of think, in a world where he hangs out at least sometimes with Crosby and Stills and Nash, that you can assume a general thesis or tonality for such a song—wait, did he just sing, “Am I lying to you when I say, ‘I believe in you?’” What a guy. He’s unsparing even when he sounds tender. Then there’s the larger view, where he dreams of “Mother Nature on the run in the 1970s” and being shipped to the sun. How can that be a well-known song and the title of a great album? It’s a great album. Of course politically he turns his unsparing high-pitched keen toward The South and we get a song that presumably pisses people off (although I read it’s actually another song, called “Alabama” on another album, that Lynyrd Skynyrd are complaining about in “Sweet Home,” not this one)—you hear “Southern Man” on Klassic Rawk stations enough that I feel sort of overfamiliar with it. But when it appears in context on the album, set among a lot of songs I don’t know that well, it’s just super, just musically amazing, the writing and the minor-key melody and the performance and production and those guitars, those guitars like lightning bolts thrown at lynch mobs. Wow, I wrote a lot. This might be the best Neil Young album I know about. I think it is, although I’m pretty partial to “Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere” and “Rust Never Sleeps,” I guess, too.
