Moosey I have another dumb question for you :| ... how do you take the black background off your gif sets? I'm using Hex for my other blog and I noticed it has one of your HUD graphics on it with a transparent bg. I did google this, but the only solution I can find is to manually delete the black from each gif frame, is that the only way to do it? I had a go but it's leaving ugly blocky bits of black behind in the tiny corners and stuff.

arrrgh, oooh no... that’s like, super hard work!  not a dumb question though, just a little ps trick... the hex theme gif isn’t transparent, what i did was overlay the gif onto the background image and change the overlay mode... soooo, here’s a shitty graphic and a lil tutorial to demonstrate how to use one of the ‘overlay’ gifs on your graphics (which gives an almost ‘transparent gif’ effect)!!

i’ll be making this ( in like 2 mins, so it’s not perf!! )

i’m gonna be using one of the hud gifs

1. open up the gif you want to use - then put all of the layers into a folder - highlight all the layers and click New > Group From Layers.  give it a name if you like...  then make a note of the number of frames/layers in your gif.

2. open up your image - make any adjustments you like--

imma use moody!stark -- then duplicate the frames by clicking the icon that looks a little bit like a post it note with a curled edge, until you have the same number of frames for your image as you do in the gif... ( i had 42 frames, so i just clicked the lil thingy 41 times XD )

3. on your gif, on the animation panel, hit the little menu at the end, click select all frames then hit it again and select copy frames

4. on your image, hit the little menu at the end of the animation panel again, click select all frames then click again and choose paste frames.  when you get a menu option choose ‘paste over selection’

5. your gif layer group should now be dropped above your image.  and you probably can’t see your image now, just your gif

6. with your gif group selected change the layer blend mode to lighten (nb/ depending on your original graphic and the gif you’re using for the overlay, you might have to mess around with different overlay options.  general rule of thumb is if you want the light bits of the gif to show and get rid of the dark, use ‘lighten’ or ‘screen’, if you want the opposite, use darken! )

7. now you should see your image through the gif!  like so --

with no cutting out or removing the black background!

8. bit of repositioning, couple of brightness layers and... tah dah - finished gif...

I think it's fine and it looks really nice! You could always stick a line in your about to say who the base character is. It's not like you're making money off it or anything, theyre just icons for your personal use :D
