Soverwine Character Profile
Night Elf demon hunter, Vengeance spec
Age: 13,230 years old.
Personality: serious, occasionally seen as sullen by others. She is very focused and duty-bound, and speaks very bluntly.
Soverwine was born in Suramar city, the younger sister of Olowine and Eselwine. She was outside the city during the War of the Ancients, and thought her family killed and her home destroyed.
She spent most of her life as a soldier, originally under Illidan Stormrage's command when she was young, then several thousand years under Tyrande's command as a sentinel. Under Illidan's command, Soverwine had an on-again off-again relationship with him, and suppressed her feelings after his apparent betrayal.
Several thousand years later, she met a druid by the name of Denarus, and fell in love again. The two got married and had two children, Cherwine and Mialwine.
When the Dark Portal reopened, aka Burning Crusade, Soverwine and Denarus went through the portal to fight the demons, and had to bring their daughters because anyone they trusted to babysit was also going through the portal.
Cherwine and Mialwine stayed safe in the ruined city of Shattrath while their parents went out and adventured.
One day, however, Soverwine and Denarus became overwhelmed by demons, and Denarus was killed. Soverwine was able to fight off the rest of the demons and bring his body back to Shattrath, but barely stayed for his funeral before marching back out into the wilderness to kill more demons out of revenge.
She had only intended to kill enough demons to feel better, then return to her daughters, but Illidan found her killing demons, and told her of the greater threat of the Burning Legion. He convinced her to join the Illidari, but before she went with him she wrote a letter to a family friend to come take Cherwine and Mialwine home, and a letter to the innkeeper of where they had been staying, asking them to let her daughters stay and keep her possessions until the friend came to collect them.
Unfortunately neither letter arrived, and the girls were tossed out on the street, and Cherwine learned how to steal in order to feed her and her sister, and then to get enough money for transport home to Teldrassil.
Soverwine rose quickly through the ranks of demon hunters, both fighting ruthlessly and caring for the other Illidari as if they were her own children. Eventually, the combination of Illidan acting as their father and Soverwine acting as their mother prompted many half-jokes half-pleas for them to stop just acting like an old married couple and just become an old married couple already. Neither of them objected to the idea, with fond memories of the romance in their youth, and they had a small ceremony to humor the rest of their followers, despite the fact that they would rather just skip that and go straight to calling themselves married. Together, Soverwine helped him get over Tyrande, and Illidan helped her get over Denarus. Soverwine also had a child with Illidan that they named Maevewine, using her name to help avoid suspicion. She is incredibly protective of him, knowing that by all rights he shouldn't exist and that it has been a miracle that he's lived as long as he has.
Upon the Illidari return to society after being released for the Warden's Vault, Soverwine was attacked by Cherwine, who had not realized that her mother had become a demon hunter, and was furious that she and her sister had been abandoned.
Soverwine did her best to apologize throughout Legion, but Cherwine would not accept a single one. Mialwine had since died and been raised as a death knight, changing her name to Icena.
While Icena was perfectly willing to accept Soverwine's return and saw her as her mother, Cherwine did not, refusing to call her her mother, and not allowing her two daughters to call Soverwine grandmother or even speak to her. It wasn't until Illidan's return and the fact that Soverwine had married him and had a child with him that things came to a head, Cherwine got all her feelings out, Soverwine resolved them, and they started the healing process. While Cherwine was again willing to call Soverwine her mother, however, she was not willing to refer to Illidan as her father, step- or otherwise, despite accepting her new half-brother.
During Shadowlands, Soverwine chose Maldraxxus as her covenant, and stubbornly refused to go near Ardenweald as much as she could, as the spirit of Denarus was not happy with some of her choices and she did not want to listen to that.
