March 18, 1965 — Cosmonaut Alexei Leonov becomes the first person to "walk" in space

Cosmonauts Pavel Belyayev and Alexei Leonov spent 26 hours in space during Voskhod 2, the second and final flight of the Voskhod program. The spacecraft was equipped with an inflatable airlock for Leonov's extra-vehicular activity and the capsule's landing in the Siberian wilderness rather than the steppes of Kazakstan led to the development of the TP-82 cosmonaut survival pistol.
