My new favorite old-kaiju-movie scientist character is whatshisface here from Space Amoeba (1970). After like a dozen movie-genius-scientists who see half a minute of grainy footage of a monster that violates every known law of physics but somehow are still able to immediately identify its providence, strengths, and weaknesses, having a guy who just goes 'Jesus Christ I am not prepared for this, I am super out of my depth, HELP' and spends most of the movie crashing out is such a breath of fresh air.

(Space Amoeba is a 7/10, C-, I thought it was, like, a functional if dull movie. Better than the four bad children's movies I saw this week - I suffered through three late stage Showa era Gamera movies and All Monsters Attack - miserable.)
(I have to specify old-kaiju-movie because otherwise, I'd be erasing Newt and Hermann from Pacific Rim.)
