Attack on @spacecolonie
Probably my FAV Artfight attack this year!! Attack 11 of 12 for @spacecolonie
Blue Eyes
{Inspired by this awesome post}
There’d been talk about the potential experiments that could be done, now that the success was a secure matter and the period of uncertainty was over. None of the scientists were entirely what had changed the outcome of this particular attempt, but seeing as it meant actually progress and a raise in funding for the first time in years, there was an unspoken agreement to overlook this inconsequential detail.
Now came the question of what to have the subject’s first sight be, as it’d been planned to document the impact of imprinting impressions to compare to those of natural newborns. If there was any sort of diversion from the standard, then it might be a warning sign of underestimating the creature’s sapience.
It was such a chatter throughout ever hall of the A.R.K., that in retrospect it should have been of no surprise that a certain resident aboard the moon of metal learned of the news as well.
It would have been planned to keep better watch on this individual, and to notice as with each passing day that they were playing closer and closer to the rooms that lead to the observation chamber.
It never could have been more obvious a plot than when she’d come in, saying that she was asked to watch by her grandfather to “learn about his work”, and sat so quietly and still that she was forgotten by them all.
The door was weak to the clearance card clutched in her little hands, and though it took all her might, its weight swayed back to provide passage.
The room was lacking the bright overhead lights of the places the people in lab coats always swarmed, and missing the kind of low light her bedroom housed. Instead, from a cylinder at the center, came a captivating emerald hue- something she’d only imagined in her dreams those nights her grandfather had told her the legends of the Magic Island of the Clouds.
Drawn closer, her little socked feet pattered against the patterned metal floor, and as she approached she could see.. that, there was something- no someone inside! Covering her mouth and checking around after a quiet gasp, she turned her focus back to the person behind the very small room of goop, amazed at what was before her.
Curious and excited, she leaned so close that just the tip of her nose pressed against the glass, causing her to scrunch up her face at how cold it was.
~
From the darkness, without up or down, came a sound so very distinct and very loud, to ears that had never heard before.
And they twitched.
~
The little girl’s mouth dropped upon as she caught sight of the tiniest movement, and the way this person’s funny hair shift as their head had tilted.
She wondered..... And then she explored. Just like any of her family’s line would remarkably do, once the gears went spinning. She got as close as she could, leaning a bit backwards as she did so. With a deep breath and cheeks puffed out from holding said air, she lent forwards once more so the tip oh her nose was once again pressed upon the mean, cold wall.
‘Grandfather always says, “If you see something happen, then redo the sit-u-ate-ton to see if it happen agains”!’
And so, she waited.
~
Once again, rang the sound, this time louder, faster, and this time it stirred them from the calm. It kept going and going, until they began to realize that the sound was joined.
The other source was from something of their own.
Now as it became heard, so did other sounds, and ones still newer from around them, outside the darkness. . . there was something calling, and on instinct they listened.
And then there was light. And then there was Blue.
~
Determined to not back away and not fall over as her legs complained, she didn’t realize at first that the person was beginning to move.
But as the sensors attached swung, it caught her attention- and just in time as she saw their face turned towards her, and as for the first time, she sees eyes of red.
There’s a brief confusion in her mind- ‘Only bunbuns have red eyes’ - but it’s pushed aside as she doesn’t break the gaze. Both have never seen anything like the other before, and there was something special in how, against the green, the red was so bright. There was something deep enough to get lost in, with how against the glow of the world from the window behind their owner, the blue had such light.
It didn’t take long for the older of these 2 strangers to beam, proudly with a baby-tooth lost in the front, and place her hand on the barrier between them and smearing her prints against it as a wave of hello.
And even as the younger didn’t grasp it’s meaning, like the child before them might be expected to do, he copied. Even down to a smile, too natural for something made from just science, prayers and chemicals meshed together to desire to make. A motion many of the researchers there would see as abnormal from their design.
It wasn’t them that saw this, however. Nor would they learn till too late to stop what was to become apparent with time. Gerald pondered over what he’d witnessed, as his niece babbled with amateurish grammar to his creation that didn’t understand.
‘It’s better this way... Now perhaps Project SHADOW will be the most willing to give us all a hand, when it learns it’s all for her.’
