20. the one where you don’t know your soulmate until you hear them say your name.

SOULMATE AU PROMPTS | CLOSED

There weren’t many people that Keith actively paid attention to, that’s just the kind of person he’d become. People didn’t care to get to know him so he didn’t care to get to know people. All they did was make WILD ASSUMPTIONS about him anyway, so what was there to care about when everyone had already made up their minds about who he was.

Trying to correct them wouldn’t work anyway. He used to try a long time ago but at the end of the day he was no less viewed as THE TROUBLED BOY who sat alone and got too angry and had rumors going around he’d stabbed a guy once- which weren’t true of course but did the gossiping savages care when it made a good story?

OF COURSE NOT.

There weren’t many people that Keith actively paid attention to, but there was one and a select few which surrounded that one which at least were worth mentally noting even if he didn’t know much about them. He was supposed to see one of them today, the brunet that usually accompanied Shiro but often was too busy to join them in their study sessions. He was free today, and this would be maybe the third time they’ve met but Keith couldn’t totally remember his name.

Max? Mark? Marvin?

It was something like that, but he wasn’t even completely sure the bespectacled boy knew his name either so IT WAS WHATEVER.

Of course, it would’ve been whatever if he hadn’t accidentally ran into the guy first because Shiro- as much of a golden boy as he was- was indeed not as perfect as people thought and was capable of RUNNING LATE and stranding his friends together who were not actually friends themselves.

Perfect.

Keith didn’t hate the guy, he just didn’t know him well outside of the fact that HE WORE GLASSES and had brown hair and he was a nerd. Those weren’t exactly the base details of some deeply woven connection that allowed for Keith to be able to come up with any conversation especially when he still couldn’t remember the guy’s name.

Manuel? Mack? Martin?

No dice, it still wasn’t coming to him even as he’d sat across from the guy and tried on some kind of smile that hopefully looked at least MILDLY PRESENTABLE because he wasn’t trying to be a dick, he just happened to come off that way sometimes.

Then there it was, Keith’s head shot up at the mention of his name and it was like he was seeing for the first time and noticing everything in VIVID DETAIL. Those vibrant honey eyes, the way his glasses sat slightly crooked on his nose and the very light freckles that sat there as well, a bright smile that stretched ear to ear, and even the goofy t-shirt he wore saying ‘gravity keeps me down’ which hung a little loosely on his frame.

❝ Matt. ❞ He found himself responding before he even realized it, heart beating loud in his own ears keeping him from thinking. Though if he could think then a part of him might think that HE WAS DYING because holy shit. Was this what taking drugs felt like? Was he slipped a hallucinogen at some point in his walk over? This can’t be normal when he’s seen this random dude around before, no way.

Though after seeing a certain sparkle reflected in Matt’s own eyes it gave him all the answers he’d needed to know, the reveal of the mystery that’d started to confound him just because someone had said his name.

HE FOUND HIS SOULMATE…

…and Keith had  never been happier that Shiro was one hot fucking mess than he was right now.

thoughts on the character: i hope we see more of matt in s3 and the future seasons, tbh, but for right now, i don’t have any thoughts on him bc we’ve barely seen him, if at all?

have you interacted before: nope, but i’d like to change that!

favorite part of portrayal: the way they elaborate on matt’s character and put a bit of their own interpretation in order to flesh him out a bit more. ^w^’

Everything???? I like everything. But especially the little details and the intricate work you put into him. It gives him depth and brings him to life in such a unique way and I adore it.
