You should wriiiiite a short fanfic with the fandom of your choosing- only the main character has to be replaced by a pink elephant. Everything else is canon.
That could get awkward. But let's give it a go...The bridge was unusually quiet as Jim Kirk sat in his captain's chair, admiring the stars in the viewscreen. His first officer, Spock, stood loyally at his side, pensively admiring the view as well. It was a beautiful moment, one that Jim didn't want to tarnish by speaking, but the feelings he'd kept bottling up was starting to make his chest ache with yearning.
"Spock, I--" Jim started, turning his attention to his friend, but his confession was choked back in favor of a new observation, "You're...an elephant." Jim had never hit a button so hard in his life. "Captain Kirk to sick bay. Come in, sick bay." Standing in front of him, precisely where his Vulcan science officer had stood, was a rather large elephant, pink in color, eyeing him skeptically. How was it possible for an elephant to have such a skeptical look? Were those eyebrows..? Just then, the elephant opened its mouth, but no sound escaped. It tilted its head as it raised its trunk, going cross-eyed staring at it.
"I don't know either, Spock," Jim stated, obviously confused, but trying to keep Spock calm. The only thing worse than a skeptical elephant standing on the bridge of the USS Enterprise was a panicked one. "Just. Hang on. We're...going to fix this." The elephant blinked emphatically as McCoy's voice flooded the bridge.
"Damnit, Jim, what is it?" Bones was saying, obviously leaning a little too close to the intercom. "Bones, something has...happened. I'm..I'm not exactly sure what. But we need to...fix it. Fast." "Well what is it?" Bones repeated, already sounding annoyed, "Should I bring anything?""Um. Spock is. Um...Just get up here. And don't bring Nurse Chapel.""If that green-blooded h--""Get up here, Bones. That's an order!"
It wasn't even a minute later when Bones came rushing onto the bridge, looking severely rattled. "Alright, I'm here, I'm-- Holy Hannah, am I seein' things?""No. This is--""It's terrifying! Pink elephants? How--""It's Spock," the captain spat, "Now... Tell me how to fix it!""I...I don't know, Jim. How can we be sure it's actually him?"The elephant glowered disdainfully at the doctor as it made a low huffing noise. "Oh, it's him alright," Jim replied, feeling absolutely terrible about Spock's sudden condition.
Jim wasn't sure how many hours had ticked by while Bones examined Spock's new elephant form. Spock was doing his best to remain calm, but even after numerous scans and tests, the ship surgeon was still no closer to finding a cure than he had been at the beginning. Hopelessness was starting to win over the night. It was Uhura, however, who'd come into the crisis somewhere near the middle, who suggested the matter be left until morning. Everyone was growing tired, cranky, and nothing good could come of it. Even Spock had to admit she had a point. So as the group split up to head to their respective chambers, Spock looked sadly at the door where his captain would soon disappear from view.
"What is it, Spock?" Jim asked, but the elephant merely looked forlornly at the sliding doors that clearly wouldn't accomodate someone of his size. "Oh. Ohh," Jim said, nodding sagely, "Well. I'll stay here with you, Spock. I couldn't leave you alone like this anyway." The elephant's somber expression softened into one of gratitude. Jim lowered the lights of the bridge, settling into his chair and getting as comfortable as the space would allow. "Of course, I'd stay with you, Spock. I... I love you." The words were heartfelt, of course, but it felt strange to say them out loud, now, like this. "You're...my closest friend." The elephant bowed its head, and even in the dim lighting, Jim swore he noticed a green blush in the elephant's cheeks. The elephant reached out with its trunk, looping it around Jim's hand slowly, the tip gently tracing over the tip of his index finger.
In the morning, Jim awoke with a start, the memory of the previous night fresh in his mind. He wondered if Bones had dreamt up any cures, if perhaps the situation had righted itself naturally somehow. But as he looked around the room, there was no elephant in sight. And when Spock stepped in moments later, there was no hint in his expression that he'd been an elephant at all.
"Spock!" the captain shouted, rushing out of his chair and throwing his arms around the confused Vulcan. "Oh god, was it a dream? It was! It must've been! Oh it was awful! You were an elephant, and I was trying--""Captain," Spock answered calmly, his voice plain and restrained, "I'm quite sure I don't know what you're referring to, but by the sounds of it, yes. Yes, I'm sure it was just a dream.""But what could it mean?" Jim mused to himself, trying to wrap his mind around the realization."I'm not one to speculate on the meaning of dreams, Captain," the Vulcan said, "But perhaps there is a logical, literal meaning. Perhaps, an elephant in the room?"
